Find Of The Month: imPRESS & Nail Dress
I am the type of gal that loves doing her nails. Notice I didn’t say ‘getting them done’ – although I appreciate a nice mani or pedi as much as the next person, I have a blast cruising the shelves of pretty pastels, gorgeous glitters, and stunning seasonal shades that the beauty industry plops into your local drug or beauty store. Lately however, I’ve been paying attention to a new trend. Or should I say, an old trend that’s been given new life, in the form of no-paint nails from imPRESS press-on nails by Broadway, and Kiss Nail Dress stick-on nails.
Let me break it down for you. We’ll start with imPRESS, which takes the little-girl activity of press-on nails to a whole new level, in part thanks to some celebrity swagger that started with Pussycat Doll & X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger, and has since been found on the tips of dozens of Hollywood starlets including Jennifer Love Hewitt and Janel Parrish (Mona on Pretty Little Liars). Each imPRESS kit includes 24 nails in an array of sizes to match anyone’s finger shape. After wiping your nails with an included cloth and cracking open your uber-cute polish-shaped case, you simply peel of each nail’s protective sticker, press them onto your nails, and voila – you’ve got a salon-quality look in mere minutes (and for a fraction of the cost).
imPRESS nails come in 18 solid colours and 18 patterns that oscillate between subtle and sexy (like the bronzey-pink and black lace-inspired ‘Holla!’ pictured above) and wild and colourful (like the pink-hued ‘Shout’ pictured below). You can of course, buy multiple sets of the solids or colours and mix-and-match to your heart’s content.
Kiss Nail Dress is a very similar product, with a new-age twist. Instead of plastic stick-ons, you’re actually applying extremely thin and flexible stickers. Much like imPRESS, you get to skip the dry time and avoid the errors of using brushable polish. The big difference here however, is the ability to layer and mix-and-match stickers. You can swipe on your favourite metallic polish and pick one of the brand’s 3D glitter styles for a sheer overlay that looks like you spent hours hand-placing gems. Or, you can snip leftover stickers and use them as nail art on other homemade manicures – or pedicures! Because they stickers are somewhat malleable, they also work well on your toes. Be prepared for some serious nail experimentation here as well – Nail dress comes in 18 different styles, so in addition to the 36 imPRESS designs, you’re looking at a year’s worth of fresh looks.
There are many reasons why I love these nail enhancers as gift ideas. For one, nail polish has a notorious drying effect on your nails – meaning more mature women are increasingly shying away from harsh polishes that may make their nails that much more brittle. These are a healthy alternative that’ll also keep you looking quite literally polished all week long – sans chips, sans flakes, sans polish overruns on your finger tips.
For another, the price is very much right. You can find virtually all of the imPRESS and Nail Dress collection for under a tenner a piece – not bad for a manicure that’ll last you for a week. That also makes them ideal stocking stuffers, birthday gifts (or add-ons), or even fun goodies to toss into your bridesmaids’ stagette or wedding goodie bags. Now where to buy them you ask? Your favourite mass market or drugstore of course – Loblaws, Lawtons, Pharmasave, Rexall, London Drugs and Wal-Mart all carry the brand (I’ve seen the displays myself) making this a great last-minute gift to snap up.
Now, no matter what your nail preferences, I’m sure most of my readers would be keen to give these wonderful press-ons a whirl. If so, you’re in luck. Me and the folks at imPRESS have teamed up to give one lucky reader five patterned sets and five solid colour sets to add to your nail collection – or if you’re a nice one (and I know most of you are), you can share the wealth with your favourite gal pals. Anyway total value of this giveaway? $100 in fab nail fashions, and here’s what you have to do to enter:
1) Leave a comment by August 31st on which imPRESS set you’d most like to try for yourself. You can browse the gallery, check out Nicole Scherzinger’s exclusive collection, or try the super fun nail app (located on the lower right of the page) to explore all the options. Just be specific in the comments – I’m going to be a stickler. Simply saying “I like purple!” won’t cut it – I want to hear you say you’re dying to try out ‘It Girl’, if you are indeed wanting to do such things.
2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around September 1st to select the winner, who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.
3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible to participate in this promotion.
4) Bonus Entry: I like Pinterest, and so should you. It’s a free service that allows you to keep track of your favourite inspirations and must-haves. You can pin up to ten items from the Canadian Gift Guide – as long as they’re posted between August 1st and August 31st. Just leave links back to your pins in the comments. Two quick things. One, if you’re just randomly pinning items to a board that has nothing to do with what you’re pinning, then you’re probably not going to be look upon too favourably (i.e. pinning imPRESS Nails to ‘Books To Read’ ain’t cutting it). And two, you are fully welcome to pin multiple things from a single post. This post alone contains 6 images = 6 potential pins. But really, where’s the fun in that?
