Final Countdown

Farewell 2012! We hardly knew ye, beyond being a doomsday prophet’s dream year (I hope not too many people drank the Kool-Aid the other week). If you’re celebrating with your pals this eve of New Year’s, you best be sidling up with a hostess gift in your purse (or pocket). Don’t have anything handy? I’ve got five last-minute picks under $15 each for you to scoop up and hand over.

Wood Apple TimerWood Apple Timer – $12.50 @ Indigo
If the hostess is also the lovely person that handed over dozens upon dozens of holiday treats a few weeks ago, indulge her sweet side with this old-fashioned wooden kitchen timer. Makes a great decor piece you’ll want to leave out on the counter (or in the fruit bowl) for easy access when you’re busy baking away.

Bowring Paris Serving TrayCafé de Paris Rectangular Tray – $12.99 @ Bowring
No matter how amazing those phyllo pastry appetizers taste, they’ll always lose a little bit of their lustre if you serve them on plain old plates. This pretty tray works equally well for big NYE fetes and intimate tea dates for two. Not a fan of Paris? There’s dozens of other styles at a similar price point.

Starbucks Reusable Cup Sleeve - SparkleReusable Cup Sleeve in ‘Sparkle’ – $2.99 @ Starbucks
If she (or he…) is never seen without a warm beverage on a cold winter’s day, let them play up their Starbucks allegiance with this spangly gold reusable cup holder. Not only is it eco-friendly and pretty, it’s also on sale right now (regular $5.45). Pop down to your local to see if they’ve got any left in stock – and if not, there’s probably another Starbucks just around the corner.

Gear FrameGear Frame (set of 3) – $13 @ Umbra
Admittedly this one will take a bit more work to track down – there isn’t an Umbra store kicking around but you can’t walk into any gift or housewares store without being confronted by Umbra’s line of wonderfully imaginative products. This set of three stacking frames caught my eye as a fun gift if you’re celebrating with a relative (or new parents), or if you’re simply looking to make memories happen to fill the frames in the future.

Peony Petal Soap

Peony Petal Soap – $12 @ L’Occitane
When is a bar of soap more than just a bar of soap? When it’s carved into the soft folds of an about-to-bloom peony flower, like this ultra-moisturizing treat from L’Occitane. A perfect way to wash the winter blahs away.

How fitting that today is the last day to enter in my ‘Good Tidings We Bring’ giveaway – and it happens to be another round-up of five hostess gift ideas. If you’d like to score one last bonus entry into that contest, simply tell me which of these gift ideas you’d most like to receive as hostess.
