Be My Valenguy
I can’t leave out the guys when I’m coming up with Valentine’s gift ideas. Although traditionally the season is peppered with sentimental and sexy gift ideas for gals, I think it’s equally fun (and important) to find sweet little surprises for guys. So with that, I’ve picked out five more fabulous gift ideas that any guy would love to unwrap come Cupid’s Day.
Gillette Fusion ProGlide Shave Gel, ProGlide Styler, and Odour Shield Body Wash
This just in: ladies do not dig facial hair (that much) and body odour (at all). While that may not exactly be news, Gillette’s got a boatload of research to back up an otherwise quiet lobby for our men to ditch the Movember staches’ and Decembeard stubble for ultra-smooth, ultra-kissable interactions. Apparently over 75% of women prefer to kiss a guy who’s clean-shaven, while 72% of my fellow gals have suffered the face-on-face effects of stubble, causing irritation, scraping, or itching. Yikes. If you want to drop a not-so-subtle hint that his scruff is rough, consider the 1-2-3 punch Gillette is packing this Valentine’s season. First, the Odour Shield Body Wash. While not a shaving product directly, it does promise to last him from his post-workout morning shower all the way to a post-Valentine’s-dinner canoodling session. Meanwhile, the Fusion ProGlide Razor is an amazing 3-in-1 tool that allows guys to style, trim, and shave their facial hair to an acceptable, smooth level, all with the help of the ultra-moisturing, friction-reducing, super-soothing ProGlide Shave Gel.
Suitjamas – $99.99
Sure ladies can have their skimpy lingerie – men can indulge in a pair of silk-cotton blend PJs for a dapper good night’s rest. Inspired by Neil Patrick Harris’ character Barney on How I Met Your Mother, these are a great in-gift if you both watch the show, or simply an offbeat choice for your hardworking hubby to drive home that whole working 24/7 ‘joke’ between the two of you. The set includes a full four pieces – including the jacket & pants, collared shirt, and ‘sleeping cravatte’. Shipping, for the record, is just $9.99 internationally, so jump on it ladies!
Blokket – $26.99 @ ThinkGeek
Is your guy the type of person that can’t ‘shut off’ from the digital world? Gift him with this handy phone pouch that blocks up to 99.7% of radio signals, meaning although his phone may be on, it won’t be humming and pinging every five seconds while you’re enjoying a candlelit dinner, trip to the movies, or even just a walk in the park. The pouch is also great for storing your credit cards and passport, if you’ve heard the freaky stories of identity theft that exist out there.
Man Cans – $9.50 each (+$9 shipping)
Last week I wrote about a line of candles that doubled as massage oil, solid perfume, and ambient light. This is the pseudo-manly answer to that concept: ManCans were actually developed by a thirteen-year-old boy with an altruistic streak. Here’s the gist: cans of soup are bought (or donated) to soup kitchens. When they’re empty, they’re given back to ManCans, who then fills them up with one of fourteen ‘manly’ scents inspired by favourite foods to the great outdoors to sports to an old timey smoking lounge. Best of all, every candle you purchase leads to another meal for another hungry person. With over 50,000 meals provided to date, you can now truly say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
WineHive – from $89
Instead of cracking open a $10 bottle of Pinot, why not give him a gift that’ll encourage him to collect wine for those special occasions in the future? The WineHive is a modular wine storage system that grows with your collection. Designer John Paulick was toiling away building shower doors when inspiration struck in the form of a nature documentary on honey bees and their honeycomb hives. Taking the same extruded aluminum he was using on the shower doors, Paulick developed a fractal wine rack that packs flat (for cheap shipping), assembles easily (so you can get to wine drinkin’), and looks stunning (to impress your guests). And if you start with a smaller model, a new one simply slides in. Obviously, the design has its fans – Paulick raised over $65,000 in preorders on Kickstarter in under 30 days, giving him the foundation to launch this full-fledged success story, complete with nearly a dozen varying styles. If you do go in this direction for your Valentine, let me give you a hint: nothing accompanies a statement piece wine rack than a delicious bottle of wine, or two – one for your night together, and one for next year!
Anyway. For all you sweet ladies out there shopping for your boys, and all you boys looking to drop hint to your ladies, I hope I’ve given you a bit of inspiration with today’s post! I’ve also got a pretty sweet prize package for one of you: a 10-bottle WineHive + a Gillette prize package, for a total value of $215! Here’s how to enter:
1) Leave a comment by February 19th with your favourite featured Valentine’s gift for men.
