Mama I Love You

Mother’s Day is upon us once again, and while this won’t be the last mom-friendly post I’ll be sharing with you before the big Sunday, it is one exclusively focused on Mother’s Day ideas I’ve plucked from much, much research. No matter what kinda mom you’re buying for, you should be able to select something special from this list to gift the mom-types in your life with.

Michael Buble To Be Loved

Michael Buble ‘To Be Loved’ – $10.97 @ Amazon
The recent Junos host and global megastar has released his first album of all-new tracks since 2009 (2011’s Christmas release not withstanding). Since I’ve yet to meet a mom that doesn’t love the dulcet tones of Buble’s voice, I don’t think it’s coincidence that he dropped a spring album on us – especially one with a sweet title like this one that can perfectly describe your mother / child relationship. If your family doesn’t do much for Mom’s day, or if you’re simply buying for a member of the Buble brigade, this is a perfect gift she’ll get plenty of use out of.

Indigo Polka Dot ToteAudrey Polka Dot Tote – $29.50 @ Indigo
If you’re shopping for a fashionable mom, she’ll love this timeless yet trendy PVC polka dot tote with a faux ostrich finish. The cream & black is universally flattering for any woman’s wardrobe, and it comes with fun extras like a tassle detail and matching detachable pouch for when you need a clutch in a clutch. Incidentally if you’re loving Indigo’s accessories line as much as I do, right now you’ll even score an initial keychain to customize the purse when you hand it over to mom.

Canadian Living AppetizersCanadian Living: The Appetizer Collection Cookbook – $26.95 (list)
If mom’s an entertainer, make her life a whole lot easier with Canadian Living’s latest test kitchen-approved nibbles. This cookbook is jam-packed with classic-with-a-twist appetizers in categories like dips & spreads (Broccoli & Cheddar White Bean Dip would be a book club hit) and savoury pastries (Sage Cornmeal Sticks are a perfect accompaniment for a light soup course). No matter whether she’s planning for a summer event and wants to whip up some cold apps (Avocado Shrimp Brochettes or Rice Paper Lobster Rolls for Canada Day anyone?) and drinks (Tropical Tutti-Frutti Punch = yum), or if she’s working on a mid-winter’s gathering and wants some hot apps (like Lemon Rosemary Chicken Skewers), this book is absolutely filled to the brim with ideas – many of which includes photos and super helpful tips, and all of which include that ever-important dietary information. Best of all, the book actually incorporates a party planning guide for those super social moms.

RW SandalsColour Block Sandals – $60 each @ RW & Co
I’m finding RW & Co’s new footwear line kind of deliciously covetable. Like the rest of their clothing, they combine special details with practical wearability for looks that work in so many settings – the office, the patio, the mall, and parties. These metallic colour-blocked sandals caught my eye as a pick that favours all ages (with a pedicure of course) – they’ll look equally stylish with mom’s summer capris as they will a pretty garden party dress. Plus, chances are she hasn’t even scoped out the full line of footwear at RW just yet, so these’ll be an extra special surprise.

Back 2 Life Massager Pain Solution

Back 2 Life Massager Pain Solution – $229.99@ Canadian TireHaving kids can be a real pain in the you-know-what sometimes…but also literally; all that running around, picking things (and people) up, and balancing a million activities – there’s a reason why the expression ‘supermom’ exists. If your mom suffers from back pain, this at-home massager may be the cure-all she’s looking for instead of pricy spa visits. The machine uses gentle ‘Continuous Passive Movement’ to unravel those knots and flex your spine, all from the comfort of your home. Plop it on a yoga mat or comfortable surface, and literally kick back and relax. I can say this – in yoga a very similar move is used (your legs go straight up vertical against a wall) and it’s not only delightful for the back, it eases the mind. And every mom could use a little vacation from real, don’t you think?

Aqualilies for Tarte PaletteAqualilies for Tarte Palette – $38 @ Sephora
Sephora has a TON of amazing Mother’s Day ideas – from fragrance to skincare to cosmetics – but my heart was pretty quickly won over by this affordable and stunning limited edition palette from Tarte. Aqualilies are a group of glamorous water warriors (okay, synchronized swimmers) who inspired this luxe line-up of mermaid-themed, waterproof cosmetics that are perfect for the upcoming summer season. This fun palette incorporates 6 shadows, a shimmer powder, a sunkissed bronzer, and a universally flattering bright peach blush – and Tarte earns my stamp of approval for being a mainstream cosmetic line that greatly minimizes the amount of toxic ingredients in their products.

Automatic Yogurt Maker
Automatic Yogurt Maker – $61.42 @ Williams Sonoma

This gift combines healthy choices with eco-friendliness – and some yumminess to boot. If mom loves yogurt but not the price or the waste, make your own custom mixes at home – from plainer-than-plain Greek Yogurt as a base for tzatiki sauce to jam and fresh-fruit infused varieties. This easy-to-use yogurt maker includes a week’s worth of reusable glass jars. All you need to do is add heated milk and yogurt starter (not included) and let it work its magic – presto, you’ve got lunchtime (or anytime) snacks, ready-to-go.

Corsage NecklaceCorsage Necklace – $110 each @ Banana Republic
Show off your swinging sixties self with one of these chunky bold costume jewelry necklaces. These statement pieces are designed to bring a serious pop of style to any outfit – my recommendation is to go with one of the wild colourful styles and pair ’em with a classic tailored top or a chic LBD…but for the safer sort, the vintage-inspired creamy vanilla take would look quite pretty against a cheerful summer dress in a citrus huge like orange or coral. No matter what, mom will appreciate this whimsical piece of jewelry for years to come.

Pop In For DrinksRoyal Doulton ‘Pop In For Drinks’ Collection – $35 – $135 @ The BayIf mom enjoys a good cocktail at the end of a long, child-rearing day then punch up her home with Royal Doulton’s spectacular new chrome & colourful set of barware. Sleek ice buckets and bowls complement cheerful colour-dipped glasses and utensils, all of which are complemented by a line-up of stylish etched pitchers and sippers (not pictured). Buy one piece to kick off a new collection or mix-and-match what she’ll find more useful. Either way, you’ll have gift ideas lined up for months to come once she falls in love with her first piece from this exciting new line.

Canadian Newborn Gift Set 2010 D2B

Mustela Newborn Set – $42
Let’s hear it for the NEW moms that are just about to celebrate their first Mother’s Day (of many). Mustela is a fantastic European brand that caters exclusively to expecting mamas & their tots, and I think nothing is quite cuter than celebrating the day with something special for mom AND baby. The maternity line carries goods to help with stretch marks, hydration, and jiggly skin post-baby, while the Bebe line is specially formulated with natural, nourishing ingredients like almond and jojoba oils, and aloe vera. Use the combined power of the Newborn Set products to gently get rid of cradle cap, prevent diaper rash, and reduce redness – all with baby-friendly, hypoallergenic, delicately-formulated products. Mustela, for the record, is available online via the link above, but you can also snap up their mom & tot goodies at Shoppers Drug Mart and Toys “R” Us to name but a few. Makes a sensational Mother’s Day pick OR baby shower choice.
