I’m very tempted to bill the next sixteen days as the Father’s Day brigade, as it feels like the bulk of my posts are dad-oriented, but of course that’s not entirely accurate. While we tend to think of outdoorsy / sporty stuff as guy territory for gifting, there’s no reason why you (or I) wouldn’t mind seeing any of these pop up as birthday, wedding, or housewarming gifts. But for the record? Dad’ll probably get a pretty big kick out of Coleman‘s entire awesome line of camping gear & gadgets. I’ve perused some of their latest and greatest and handpicked a handful of favourites that’ll suit any type of dad.
Tops for Tailgating Types: NXT 100 – $249 @ Canadian Tire
If dad’s a guy on the go that also happens to feel perfectly at home behind the grill, the NXT 100 is a genius gift idea. This portable BBQ folds up compactly for easy storage and travel, but don’t be fooled – it still packs a lot of punch. Featuring a single burner grill with up to 15,000 BTUs, dad will still get that at-home burger-flipping, steak-sizzling, kabob-twirling feeling whether he’s serving up hot dogs at his kid’s soccer game or enjoying a pre-CFL match tailgating party. Also works wonders for small spaces and trips to enjoy the great outdoors – avid campers need not stick to an open fire when you’ve got this puppy packed up.
Great for Gamers: Washer Toss – $39.99 @ Canadian Tire
Although Coleman is primarily known for their sturdy camping and outdoors gear, they definitely recognize that when you’re kicking back in the sunshine, it doesn’t hurt to have a little fun. Their new line of outdoor games – including horseshoes, badminton, and a bean bag toss – are fantastic whether you’re simply rolling them out for a backyard BBQ or toting them along for a weekend getaway in the woods. My favourite of the mix is the washer toss game you see above – apparently this old school ‘sport’ with the world’s simplest objective (get the washer in the hole) is making a comeback, and this all-in-one kit ensures a pro and party-ready match-up. A perfect choice for the dad that loves to host family (or friendly) gatherings.
Sensational for Sideline Sitters: Oversized Quad Chair with Cooler – $39.96 @ Wal-Mart
Summertime tends to bring out the little ones for summertime sports. If dad’s more into sitting back and sipping on a icy cold drink than screaming from the sidelines, you’ll definitely want to treat him to a deluxe outdoor sitting experience with this fab chair. With extra padding and a wide seat, all dad has to do is reach down into the built-in soft cooler (which can keep things chilly with a Coleman Chillers Ice Brite pack) to grab a beverage for himself, or a juice box for whoever it is you’re cheering on. Because it’s ultra portable (yay for folding legs + carrying cases) it’s also a good pick if dad loves to hit the summer music festival circuit, or even just likes to kick back on the beach.
Best for Beer Imbibers: 30 Qt Cooler with Bail Handle – $24.96 @ Wal-Mart
I couldn’t write a post about Coleman and not feature their iconic (yet always-innovativing) line of coolers. Not only do these classic chillers last forever, they feature tons of great features. Take the mid-sized 30 Qt cooler you see above – it holds nearly 40 cans of soda (or let’s be honest for dad, beer) or it can stash upright 2L bottles of pop, so you can avoid sticky, messy leaks. It’s also durable enough that you can use it as an extra seat in a pinch, or as a cupholder when stashed between you and a friend. Perhaps neatest of all, this incredible cooler manages to keep ice cold for two days in 32 degree heat. The price makes it a total steal as well – pick one up for your father-in-law and stuff it with a case of his favourite drink and tickets to a big game.
Outstanding for Outdoors Appreciators: (L to R) Instant Dome Tent (4) – $119.99 @ TargetInstant Tent (8) – $299.99 @ Canadian Tire
Instant Beach Shade – $109.99 @ Canadian Tire, London Drugs, Forzani & Le Baron
What you see above is still just a sampling of the brand’s ready-in-a-snap line-up of tents and canopies, perfect for afternoon picnics, weeklong camping excursions, and sunny days on the sand. The cute & cozy Instant Dome Tents with built-in rainfly set up in just one minute, and come in sizes that accommodate four or six people (or if you’re glamping it up, a queen-sized air mattress). The heavy-duty Instant Tent Family is the world’s easiest large-capacity tent (you can buy one that sleeps up to 10 people!) with the same promise of a minute or less in set-up time, saving you from those miserable moments when you can’t figure out how Pole A connects to Pole D. Finally the Instant Beach Shade is perfect for staking claim by the sea; it too sets up in mere seconds, and allows you privacy when changing plus a place to stash your valuables while you’re paddling in the waves. I featured each of these items because I feel like you can find a perfect fit depending on dad’s hobbies – if he only needs a tent a couple times a season, opt for the more affordable Dome tents. If he’s a regular camper or has a big family to house, hook him up with national park season pass and a mega-sized Instant Tent. Finally if he’s the type that owns a cabin but could use some shelter on the beach, the Instant Beach Shade is your best bet.
