What’s In The Teens’ Stockings?
Posted by Canadian Gift Guide on December 18, 2013 · 103 Comments
Ah those teens (and tweens). If anything, I find culling stocking stuffers among the easiest for them, as they’re prone to like little ‘throwaway’ trinkets and toys that are perfectly priced for inclusion in their stockings. And with that, here’s a few nifty ideas to treat them this holiday season, all at $25 or less.
Splat Hair Chalk – $8.99 each @ Various Drugstores
Your teenage years are the perfect time to experiment and make mistakes with your style. Let your kids be a rebel – for a day – by adding dramatic pastel ‘highlights’ to their locks with these easy-to-apply temporary dyes that wash out when you’re done with ’em.
The Bookmarker – $12 @ Animi Causa
If you’ve got a rabid YA bookworm in the house that’s prone to using sticky notes and business cards to mark their page, save them some trouble and pick up one of these cute chrome bookmarks instead. With fun sayings and a peekaboo format, it’s a gift any avid reader – boy or girl – will appreciate.
Energy Gummi Bears – $2.99 @ Gummi Boutique
Although teens seem to have boundless energy for partying all night, the same can’t be said for studying. When your energy drink-crazed teen wants to switch up their zingy substance of choice, toss ’em a bag of these caffeine-infused gummi bears.
Aimee Wilder Cell Phone Cases – $19.99 @ Target
Brooklyn-based designer Aimee Wilder is beloved for her bold graphic prints – that also serve up a side of adorable. They’re available in various locations across Canada (most notably Target) and promise to deliver protection for that precious hunk of glass while also totally suiting your teen’s style (both lads and lasses).
Herbal Essences Moroccan My Shine Shampoo & Conditioner – From $4.29 @ drugstores nationwide
By now you’ve likely heard of the lustrous benefits of Moroccan argan oil on your hair. While previously relegated to pricy, premium salon brands, it’s now appearing in more widely accessible products, like this duo from Herbal Essences. For extra shine and softness during the harsh winter months, simply lather up and you know, do the Herbal.
Gold Standard Noteblock – $10.95 @ McNally Robinson
Encouraging the young minds in your household to put down their brilliant ideas (or that boy or girl’s phone number they’re crushing on) down on paper is never a bad idea. It’s made easier however, when they’re writing on a sheet of gleaming gold paper that channels their favourite rap icon.
Godiva Mini Hot Chocolate Trio – $20
Teens are generally a little young to appreciate the nuances of tea or the power of coffee. That doesn’t mean they can’t indulge in a hot bevvie though, as this trio of pint-sized milk and dark hot chocolate canisters from luxury chocolate brand Godiva proves.
Eylure Katy Perry Faux Lashes – ~ $6.99 @ Shoppers Drug Mart, London Drugs, and Jean Coutu
Pop songstress Katy Perry is known for her wide-eyed pretty stare along with her cartoonish fashion experiments – her line of false lashes with UK brand Eylure allows you to play with your own look in a variety of ways. Honestly, this is one of the most expansive lines I’ve seen, with standard lash lushifying options, pre-glued options for less mess, and unique lines like Party Lashes (think: glitter and rhinestones) and Colour Pop (for bright pops of purple, cobalt and green at your lashline). A fun way for your teen daughter to get glammed up.
Froot Guard – $2.97 – $4.97 @ Fenigo
Getting your kids to eat more fruits & veggies is never easy, particularly if it gets lost in the depths of their backpack or worst, their locker. This handy plastic case protects produce from pencil shavings and other miscellaneous student debris (as well as smushing). Available in 2 different sizes and 6 BPA-free plastic colours, it’s at least a step toward eating better.
Would You Rather? Pocket Version – $13.95 @ Boardgames.ca
I have the full-size version of this ‘game’ and it’s pretty intense. I like it for teens because A) It’s funny and squeamish and perfect for still slightly immature teens. And B) It’ll actually get ’em thinking, in unexpected ways, but still – decisiveness is a virtue!
There you have it! I hope your teens are plenty happy this holiday season if / when they open one of these fun picks. I’ve also got a little prize package to give away to one reader: a pair of Katy Perry Eylure lashes and an Aimee Wilder Whale phone case. Want to win it? Here’s how:
Here’s how to enter:
1) Drop me a comment by January 9th telling me which of these 10 picks for teens you’d most love to gift (or receive, even if you aren’t a teen).
2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around January 10th to select the winners, who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.
3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible for this promotion.
4) Bonus Entries: Follow Eylure on Twitter and send out a Tweet about your favourite Katy Perry lash style tagging them and me (@cdngiftguide) to earn an extra entry.
