BBQ Boosters

It’s BBQ season on the Canadian Gift Guide or something – how else can you explain all the fun foodie and grilling gift ideas I’ve been featuring lately? Today, I’m checking in with Epicure, home to some of the most scrumptious spices, mixes and more you’ll ever find (not to mention some super handy tools) to boost your next BBQ.

Epicure Butcher's Block Sea SaltEpicure Butcher’s Block Sea Salt – $15
There are actually tons of salt varieties available from Epicure, including an Alder Smoked Sea Salt and a Chili Garlic Sea Salt grinder, but I had to highlight their Butcher’s Block variety in a post about BBQing. Featuring mustard seeds, spices, and garlic, sprinkle this onto your favourite meats before throwing them on the BBQ to lock in their juices and give them a subtle, spicy flavour. Artisanal salts make an excellent hostess gift and this one is no exception.

Epicure Burger PressEpicure Burger Press – $25
Why use a burger press you ask? For one, visual appeal – there’s something nice about having a uniformly made patty as opposed to a ragged-edged one. For another, and more practically, a burger press ensures your patties are the same height and shape, meaning it’s easier to achieve even cooking. Epicure’s model allows you to create quarter-pound patties in a flash, and includes eight reusable divider disks. A great pick for the grilling maestro that thinks they have everything.

Epicure Sweet and Spicy MustardEpicure Sweet & Spicy Mustard – $9.50
Your BBQ favourites wouldn’t be the same without some delicious condiments to quite literally top them off. As you’d expect, Epicure has tons of twists on old favourites, like a Harissa sauce mix in place of BBQ sauce, or a bold and tangy Sweet & Spicy Mustard. Not only is it great on your burgers and sandwiches, it’s also an excellent accompaniment if you’re attempting to whip up some Bavarian pretzels. A yummy choice for a condiment collector.

Epicure Grip and Grab and Silicon Basting BrushEpicure Grip & Grab – $13 and Silicone Basting Brush – $10
One of the things I love the most about Epicure is that they aren’t just about filling up your shelves – they actually provide you with everything you need to make a fabulous meal, including tons of handy cookware items and utensils. Two must-haves for BBQ chefs? These Grip & Grab tongs have a steel core and a non-stick coating, making it a snap to flip and rotate foods on the grill. And this Silicone Basting Brush can withstand high heat as you add on some mouthwatering BBQ sauce to whatever you’re cooking up.

Quickles Pickling MixEpicure Quickles Pickling Mix – $7
If your friend has a flourishing garden this summer, she’ll love you for gifting her with this easy-to-use pickling mix. Loaded up with Canadian-grown mustard & coriander seed, black pepper, chilies and dill, this is a great way to add some pop to your pickles and other sliced veggies served up at the picnic table. Think about making it an afternoon activity with a loved one and get pickling together.

Epicure Penguin PalsPenguin Pals – $10
A good meal deserves a great finish. These cute, squeezable ice pop makers are a cinch to use and fun for kids. Use them to easily make frozen yogurt, tea, juice, or ice cream pops – simply add your mixture, seal up the bottom with the cute ‘foot’ cap and within hours you’ll have a tangy, refreshing summer treat. A good pick to get the kids involved in prepping for a BBQ party.

Epicure Oh CanadaEpicure Oh Canada Dry Glaze – $12
A dry glaze is somewhere between a dry rub and a sauce. Applying it is as simple as coating your meat (or veggies) in oil and tossing with the glaze, which in this patriotic case, tastes like sticky sweet maple. Epicure has a few other varieties including one themed to Jamaican food and another to Balinese cuisine, but only the Oh Canada blend makes for a perfect Canada Day BBQ party hostess gift.

Good Burgers Real FastGood Burgers. Real Fast. Food Kit – $25
Last year I featured Epicure’s new Good Food. Real Fast. kits, which are designed to make cooking a total breeze with just a few simple ingredients. They’ve since expanded the line to include new items, like this totally BBQ-appropriate burger collection. With multiple recipe cards to help you freshen up your routine, and Epicure’s Burger Seasoning, Big Burger Sauce Mix, and Pico Salsa Mix, this is the best BBQ booster and an excellent housewarming or houseguest present.
