Trend Watch: Patch You In
Now here’s a trend I’m surprised to see again. Embroidered denim, previously reserved for puppy motifs on the back of your mom’s fave denim jacket circa 1991, have come back into style. While I’ve honed in on some pant options below, I’ve spotted embroidered denim jackets, skirts, shorts and more – even for guys. The look can quickly go girly / distract / little kiddish, so keep things polished up top. Opt for a simple slouchy tee or dress it up with a polished white blouse. Let the pants speak for themselves!

STS Blue Tomboy Skinny Patched Jeans – $68 USD @ Nordstrom: Distressed + patches + embroidery = an over the top pair of pants that are sure to turn heads. All you need is a simple tee up top and a bright smile to pull these off.
New Look Embroidered Patch Skinny Jeans – $59 @ ASOS: Embroidery doesn’t have to be insane. These subtle skinnies have a well-placed detail at each hip. Just make sure you wear it with a top that won’t cover it up!
Rainbow With Me Jeans – $69.99 @ Modcloth: These retro-flavoured beauties have a disco flare, high waist, and rainbow embroidery. Picture ’em with a cute cropped or tucked in tee and your favourite roller skates.
Shower Me With Flowers Jeans – $220 @ Free People: Faux boho brand Free People has tons of embroidery in their lineup, including these light wash jeans. The raw hem makes them extra easy breezy.
BDG Embroidered Mom Jean – $82 @ Urban Outfitters: The embroidery on these guys is pretty subtle, but the retro cut of the jean’ll still make them pop. Look out for a lightning bolt, heart, and cute message around the hip area.

The first pair is really fun. My daughter wears something similar. I would prefer the second pair, which is a bit more subtle.

I remember my mom buying me a pair of embroidered jeans when I was in high school. She made me wear them even though no one else in the school had a pair. I didn’t like them and I still don’t.
