Find Of The Month: Playmobil Advent Calendars
Not to be overdramatic…but this post has been nearly a year in the making. I was visiting my family last Christmas when we stopped into one of my favourite stores on the planet – a good ol’ fashioned locally owned toy store that puts an emphasis on fun and imagination, as opposed to gadgets and gizmos. It was there I spotted Playmobil Advent Calendars…and realized that it was far too late in the year to be doing a post on them. So I vowed to myself to look them up this year, and here we are.
Last year the calendars were sort of gender themed – I believe there was a fairy and a western set. This year they’ve got three super exciting sets which are ideal gifts for tykes of all ages and genders (although it’s recommended they be 4+), including this Knights Tournament set pictured above.
Here’s why I’m so gung ho on these things – like the Dino Expedition set above – even a year later. Typically speaking, what passes for an advent calendar these days is a sad $5 piece of cardboard from the grocery store filled with chemical-laden chocolates. In addition, what passes for a Christmas list these days seems to be whatever the hot video game is. I miss the old (ah, and I’m not old!) days of making a wish list of toys and games, and looking forward to the surprises my mom put in my custom-built advent calendar every day. The Playmobil calendars are a nice compromise. Your kid has something exciting to look forward to opening every day, and when all is said and done, they’ve got a really nice toy to tear their attention away from whatever screen of choice they’re addicted to.
Now, you can snag these calendars from all sorts of good toy stores. Support local business and try any independently owned shops first. If you strike out, or if you don’t have one in your city, Scholar’s Choice has them online for just $25 – which works out to a buck a day for the season.
Personally, I love the Christmas Post Office one the best – but I want to hear which one you’d be most excited to have. Why? Because I’m giving away two of these calendars, just in time for you to have before Christmas. Here’s the details on entering:

Absolutely love the Knights Tournament Calendar. I have TRIPLETS and they would be thrilled to receive this.
I like the post office calendar.
The post office calendar is the one I like. I teach 2nd grade and am always looking for innovative advent calendar ideas and this one would definitely tie in with our letter writing theme of the season.

wow these are great. My grandson would love the Knights Tournament although I think most kids would be excited by any of them.
I love these! They’re so much more fun than the chocolate ones (especially since the chocolate isn’t the best tasting lol!) Our daughter would love any of them, as would we as parents prefer them, but I think if I was going to pick one, it would be the post office one 🙂

My son’s family consists of 3 step-children and 2 of his own. 5 children under 14 (one boy exactly in the middle). I would love to win the knight’s advent calender for him. He so often gets looked over.
Hard to choose, they each have their special charms. Probably the ‘Post Office’ calendar since it’s more in keeping with tradition.

I would choose the Playmobil Christmas Post Office Advent calendar. Although all three advent calendars featured on the Scholar’s Choice site are wonderful, I know my nieces would be thrilled to add this to their Playmobil collection!

You can purchase the calendars at Scholar’s Choice (online or in-stores), I originally saw them in an independent toy store in Winnipeg.
My niece recently discovered the wonderful of Lego.. she would LOVE this!
I also just came across these advent calendars (and the lego ones)! They are brilliant! We’re going to introduce our daughter to Playmobil this Christmas and these would be a good way to entice her leading up to Christmas! Awesome blog BTW 🙂
