Find Of The Month: Garnier
True story: I actually love scouring the shelves of my local drugstore for fun gift ideas. The great thing about buying ‘off-the-shelf’ products as gifts is, first of all, they’re uber accessible, and second of all, they’re usually quite affordable – meaning you get way more bang for your buck and can often put together a pretty sweet gift basket.
With that in mind, I’m very much in a ‘back to school’ state of mind (despite not being a student), and thought it would be really fun to put together an dorm-ready checklist for anyone in your life that’s moving out for the first (Or second, or third, after a summer at home) time to a college dorm or apartment. Because every item is so affordable, whoever you’re stocking up for their first farewell will be able to replace their goods easily as the year rolls on. Today’s Garnier Fructis essentials are designed for the gal that’s swarmed with schoolwork and socializing, but still wants to look fabulous!
Crystal Resist Sprays – $5.99 each
Let’s start with one of the areas you probably already know & love Garnier Fructis for – hair! Of course, a cool thing about this company is they are constantly on the hunt for new innovations in the world of haircare, as evidenced by these new Crystal Resist hairsprays. Infused with real crystal minerals that both give you 24-hour hold and glossy, shimmering shine, this is the perfect product to either that self-made hairstyle stay in place – whether it’s a slick ponytail for the gym or a cadre of curls for a night out.
Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector – $19.99
I couldn’t write about Garnier and not talk about their amazing new BB Cream, which I’ve owned for months now. For the unfamiliar, BB (beauty balm) Creams are all the rage in Asia, and have recently migrated over here. After all, what’s not to love about an all-in-one product that gives you a smooth, even complexion without the heaviness of foundation? The reason why these creams are so popular is their multi-tasking capabilities. This little bottle combines anti-aging properties with an intense moisturizer, plus a hint of colour to minimize any skin discolouration or unevenness – and with two universally flattering tones, you’re sure to find one that matches your skin. Best of all, as a product after my own heart, it includes SPF 15 sun protection – making it the *perfect* pick to smooth onto your face before a weekend trip to the grocery store or farmer’s market. Lightweight, moisturizing, protecting, and beauty-inducing – me like!
Fall Fight Shampoo, Conditioner & Anti-Breakage Spray – $5.29 – $7.99
Before you start questioning – what hair-damaging things exist in the fall? (answer: Humidity!) – let me assure you, that while thematically appropriate for the season, the Garnier Fall Fight collection is not actually geared to fall weather protection. In fact, it’s designed to minimize breakage that leads to the natural falling-out of your hair. You know – those strands that wrest themselves loose when you’re brushing, blowdrying, or even towelling off? This three-pronged attack is designed to keep more hairs on your head – up to 1,500 in fact – for a fuller, more voluminous head of hair. Extensions? Who needs to splurge on them when you’ve got your own lush locks to pretty up.
Intensive 7 days Conditioning Lotion - $5.99 – $7.99
The very latest addition to the Garnier line-up is a new line of body lotions, tagged with ’7 days’ because you can actually feel the moisturizing effects of the creams for up to 7 days after you first apply them! There are five new lotions in the collection, each with an infusion of a key natural ingredient designed to help with common skin maladies ranging from dryness to sensitivity. Of course, those natural ingredients also contribute to a way pretty smell – including mango oil, cocoa butter, aloe vera, honey, and shea butter. It’s great for us Canadian types in particular, since cool winters and dry summers can be so harsh on our skin – smooth some on as the days get colder and preserve that refreshing moisturized feeling you get when you step out of the shower.
Sleek & Shine Serum Spray, Oil Treatment & Smoothing Milk – $5.49 - $6.99
Argan (or Moroccan) oil has been a hot seller over the last couple of years, thanks to its weightless smoothing properties that leave your hair looking extra shiny and sleek – but not weighed down or coated in grease. That being said, it’s also come at a hefty price – until now. Garnier is the first mass market brand to infuse their products with Moroccan Argan Oil, in three formulas depending on your hair’s needs. From a humidity-fighting spray to a nourishing oil treatment to a hair-holding creme, these products make it so easy and attainable to finally take control of your hair. And as mentioned above, humidity is at its worst in the fall – particularly for those of us that live on the coast – so this is a fab addition to your back-to-school goodie basket!
Like I mentioned, all of these products are available at your favourite mass market and drugstores across Canada. If you’re looking to finish off your goodie basket, consider adding in some fun hair elastics, a styling tool (like a curling iron), a shower pouf, flip flops, or a pretty lip gloss for a go-to basket your favourite girl can simply grab when she’s getting ready in the morning. If you’re fiddling with your hair right now and wondering how much better it will look after using just one or two of these products, you’re in luck: I’m giving away a gift basket of $100 worth of Garnier goodies to one lucky reader!
