Santa Paws

A couple of people have jokingly said to me “Are you doing a post on gift ideas for pets”? And I mean…it’s not to say I’ve NEVER done pet gift ideas before, so I don’t know why I wouldn’t at Christmas. I suppose because some people think it’s ludicrous to buy something for their furry friends when they’re already giving them room and board…and getting oodles of love and ‘aw’ moments in return. If you ARE looking for a pet gift – whether you’re treating your own pet or giving one to the dog-crazy / cat-obsessed / pet lover in your posse, here are five ideas for pet gifts this holiday season.

The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan Portable Food Dish – $6.99-$8.99
Everyone’s favourite man’s best friend’s best friend, the Dog Whisperer, now has a line of smart and practical accessories for your precious pooch including brushes, toys, bowls, and leashes. Clip this to-go silicone bowl (which folds into a slim 1/2″ profile) to your belt loop, backpack, or even leash for easy access to snacks and sips while you’re at an event, camping, or even just taking a stroll in the park.

Fish Hotel Fishbowl – $35
Something that looks beautiful for both you and the fish? Count me in. This sleek and simple fish bowl comes in both white and black and gives the appearance of multiple rooms. What’s neat about something like this gift is it’s not for someone that necessarily has a pet already. Buy a pretty beta fish and gift it to a coworker or friend to get them started on the road to pet ownership.

Doca Pet Y-Bowls – $30-36
True story that my cat would probably yell at me (if he could) for telling you – plastic dishes can give your kitteh friends acne, plus given how infrequently most people clean their pet bowls, can be bad for long-term health. Hence why we switched our pet over to stainless steel years ago. If I had to do it all over again, I’d definitely take a look at Doca Pet’s super sharp bowls, like the cat-friendly Y-Bowl line, available in five modern colours. Be sure to check out their full collection of dog & cat dishes to match whatever cutting-edge decor your friend has.

Marshall Peter’s Woven Grass Hut – $11.99
If your heart isn’t melting at this picture, you’re probably reading the wrong post. Anyway, if you know of a lucky lass or lad that’s being gifted with a new small pet, check out this smart solution to furnish the cage. Made of woven grass, this snuggly bed smells like the great outdoors, protects paws from wire cage bottoms, and is safe to chew whenever your tiny friend is feeling a little anxious. At this price, you can also afford to replace it whenever it gets worn out.

Martha Stewart 2-in-1 Pet Bed – $34.99
Leave it to Martha to come up with something one part comfy cosy, one part pet perfected. This 2-in-1 bed is primarily designed for cats (who love to hide), but smaller pups will enjoy the cushy double layers of the regular bed as well. When there’s too many people in the house or blinding bright sun? Simply pop it up for a cavernous hideaway.

I like the Doca pet Y-bowl, my cats always spill the food on the floor so I’m also looking for a nicer mat to put under the dishes. Right now I just use a boot tray, but it doesn’t look very nice!

Love the folding pet bowl — a great, portable idea.

  3. The bunny picture is adorbs.

  4. If you’re looking for the Umbra Fishhotel ( we have black & white) or Doca Pet raised pet bowls in Canada check out our site http://www.LoftyAmbitions.ca . We don’t have the Y-Bowl feature above (shipping makes it too expensive), but we have a number of their other great pieces. Also if you’re in the Hamilton area check out our store @ 1045 King St W in Westdale Village. Call us @ 289-389-5465.

I really like the pet bed. It would be great for our new dog! Unfortunately, I don’t think she would prefer it to the couch, lol!

Tell me what you think...
