Sweet Sixteen

My blogging birthday is coming up soon-ish here on the Canadian Gift Guide (oh yes, expect a celebration kids), and while two years feels like a long time at seeking out some awesome gift ideas, I’ve got to give credit where it’s due: sixteen years is a heck of good run for providing amazing gift-giving ideas. I’m referring, of course, to philosophy, which is celebrating their sweet sixteen in style with a massive launch of new spring-worthy pretty products. Director of International Programs & Global Press Robin White was in Toronto recently (woe is me for not being there to meet her to hear more about the brand firsthand), and helped shed new light on the brand’s surprisingly storied history for the likes of me. For example, did you know the brand began in 1996 based on founder Cristina Carlino’s mission to create products to inspire people to live a better life by being better to themselves. With that in mind, I’m psyched to point you guys in the direction of my three fave new philosophy products that do just that.

Summer Grace Fragrance – $52 @ Sephora, and select Bay / Shopper’s Drug Mart stores
Amazing Grace, philosophy’s best-selling fragrance, is one of my personal favourites of all the scents on my vanity (okay, dresser). Summer Grace is yet another evolution in the brand’s ongoing Grace collection, and once again is imbued with a light, warm floral scent that instantly channels those lazy summer days of yesteryear. If you’re a fan of the other Grace scents, you’ll like the all-day staying power of these potent perfumes, and the gentle fruity undertones that make this one a true summer treat. As for gift-giving, the great thing about the Grace collection is they’ve got a wide range of age appeal. They’re not so overpowering that adults with sensitive noses will turn away, nor are they so floral and feminine that a younger gal won’t want to bask in them. Consider this is a great Mother’s Day pick.

Mangos & Cream 3-in-1 Shower Gel$21 at Sephora and select Bay and Shoppers Drug Mart Stores
I love everything philosophy produces, but I’m a particularly big sucker for their food-inspired scents. The tantalizing tropical Mangos and Cream – the latest limited edition fragrance to join the philosophy ranks – is no exception, with the smell of juicy, ripe mangoes mixed in with a hint of creamy vanilla. As always, if you’re not familiar with their 3-in-1 Shower Gels, you get a shampoo, bubble bath, and body wash in one little package. An excellent birthday gift for your guy or gal pal. Find someone that loves the scent? It also comes in a lip gloss and body lotion.

Hop Into Spring Gift Set
-$33 at The Bay and Shoppers Drug Mart
I look at this gift set and literally see my childhood in a box. At least my Easter childhood. My grandma’s signature frosted cookies, sparkle-sugar coated marshmallow chicks, and surprisingly gourmet chocolate bunnies were all things I found in my Easter basket – so consider this a grown-up, calorie-free way to indulge in the same way. This little gift set can be split up amongst your three kids or friends, or hand over the whole shabam to a friend with an Easter-lying birthday.
