A Degree’s Difference
I think my most favourite thing about this blog is when I get to write about Canadian companies that are doing something really neat. The good news is, there are plenty of them, and I’ve really only shared a handful with you to date. Today’s pick is one such option – Québec-based wine product enthusiasts, Ravi.

What is a Ravi you ask? It’s a handy gadget designed by Michel Dallaire designed to chill your wine as it’s ready to be served to the optimal temperature for a fuller, richer, more lip-smacking drink experience. The methodology is insanely simple once you get your paws on this gadget. Simply leave it in your freezer, and when you’re ready to pop the cork on a bottle of Pinot or Cabernet, attach it to your wine bottle, set the appropriate temperature, and pour. The genius thing about Ravi is that it chills the liquid, and not the bottle, to guarantee the full bouquet of each wine blend to fully burst to life with every sip.
The idea behind the Ravi is that most people – given very few of us can be considered seasoned wine sommeliers – tend to serve their reds too warm, because we’ve all been taught not to chill them. With the Ravi you basically get all the benefits of a slightly chilled wine cellar at your fingertips. To really up the experience, you can also buy the Modular Decanter to perfectly aerate your wine and chill it by attaching your Ravi.
Of course, Ravi can also be used for whites, or to chill your favourite liquors. If you’re nursing a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc over the course of a dinner party, keep it fresh and crisp with a run through the Ravi. Instead of serving up scotch on the rock, hand over a perfectly, instantly chilled glass to an honored guest at a special event.
The Ravi itself retails for $39.95, which is a heck of a lot more affordable than installing a wine cellar, especially when you consider it can be reused again and again. The carafe is $69.95, and together they make a great price point for an elegant wedding gift for all those soirees you’re bound to be headed to this summer. Individually consider either one of these sleek pieces as a surefire hit for your boss, parents, or that friend who may as well print up business cards that say hostess with the mostest. You can purchase Ravi online directly from the company, or check out their extensive list of retailers across Canada.
The thing I love about Ravi is you really don’t have to be a wine expert to appreciate a better glass of wine. In fact the Ravi site is designed to be a resource for all of us bumbling along with our bottles. Check out this part of the site that outlines what temperature your favourite sip should be served at – you’ll need it if you want to enter to win a Ravi for yourself. How you ask?
1) Leave a comment below by July 3rd telling me your favourite type of wine, and the optimal temperature it should be served at, according to Ravi.
2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around July 4th to select the winner, who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.
3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible to participate in this promotion.
4) Bonus Entry: I’d like some more Twitter followers. My handle is @cdngiftguide so start following, and drop your own Twitter handle in the comments below so I can credit you. Already a devoted follower? Just remind me in the comments.
