Teacher’s Pet

Back to school is just around the corner – in fact for some, it may have already started. Stay tuned for tons of back-to-school gift ideas over the next weeks – whether living the collegiate life, packing your favourite little one’s lunch, or in today’s case, introducing yourself to a new teacher. Typically speaking teacher gifts come at the end of the year, but maybe you’re hoping to make a good first impression, or you’re taking another course with a favourite professor, or you’re even attending an evening painting or floral arrangement class and you’d like to show some appreciation for the instructor’s hard work. Another possible use for today’s gift list? Maybe your friend, spouse, or family member is a teacher. Or maybe you yourself are a teacher, and want to welcome a new faculty member. Help them kick off the new year with a new token for their desk.

Bananagrams Word Game – $19.99 @ Toys R Us
Forget bringing in an apple – Bananagrams offer far more food for thought. If you haven’t played this fun little game yet, you’ll dig it – it basically combines the best of Scrabble and crossword puzzles in a quick, on-the-go format. Simply use the included tiles to create as many intersecting words as possible in a limited amount of time, and earn points for your performance. A little brainy, a little fun, and possibly useful for an in-class ice breaker activity? Sounds like an A+ idea.

Scratch-n-Scroll: The Noteable Mousepad – $14.99 @ Quirky
What tech-minded teacher wouldn’t love this eco-friendly writeable mousepad? While browsing the web or answering emails, they can easily jot down reminders, web addresses, or ideas – and when they need to start anew, all it takes is a lift of the protective sheet and you’ve got an Etch-A-Sketch style blank slate. Would work really well if you’re studying some sort of computers / technology-related subject, but really, any teacher with a computer to call their own would dig this one.

The Sharper Image Digital Photo Keychain – $11.99 @ Bed, Bath & Beyond
This one would make a cute idea for a teacher that’s new to a class, or conversely, is on their way out the door. Take snapshots of the campus, the students, or even the town, upload them onto the keychain, and hand it over for a literal snapshot of the school and surrounding area, plus give them somewhere to attach their new keys to the building, or if they’re retiring, the keys to their summer home / boathouse / snowbird residence.

Cucina Hand Cream Gift Set w/ Recipe Box – $24 @ Fruits & Passion
A lovely idea to either divide and conquer among your kids’ new line-up of teachers, or to gift to one special instructor. Returning to a cooking class with a beloved teacher? Bring this in as a heartfelt thank you. With five delicious and oh-so-nourishing fragrances to keep their hands soft whilst marking a dozen projects, this is a beautifully designed, elegantly packaged way to kick off the new year. Also makes a great choice if a friend or family member is kicking off a new job.

What a great post! As a Special Education Specialist teacher, I rarely get any kind of gifts from students as they usually reserve those for the classroom teacher. I always appreciate any token of appreciation as I really work hard and adore my students! #CGG

I love these unique ideas that deviate from the standard mug, chocolates, and gift cards. #CGG
