Every single gift featured on the CGG is a winner – right? But I’m just one person, so sometimes you need a governing body to point out a few other extra awesome items, something the Canadian Gift and Tableware Association recently did, awarding creative gift ideas across eight diverse categories. Today I’m going to highlight a few of ’em for you in the run-up to the holiday season. The cool thing about these gifts in particular is their universal appeal. Sometimes I’ll write pretty specific posts on here – like beauty ideas, or gifts for golfers – but these beauties have a mass audience for you to bestow upon. Note, the links for each product are carriers of the product – even if you don’t see it on their site, simply contact the companies to track down each item!

Paris Phone – $30
If you’re like me, you’re a little weirded out by all the radiation rumblings when it comes to mobile phones – especially given the increasingly popular trend of trading your landline for your cell. If you still want to have marathon phone calls but don’t want to hold your mobile next to your brain for hours, consider this sleek-yet-retro-inspired winner of the best gift for your home – the Paris Phone. Simply connect it to any cell and talk away, whether you’re at the office or at home. A very cool idea for your pal that just started her own home business, or for your teen that has essential hours of talk time to log.

Millefiori Car Air Fresheners – $13 each
Winner of the best gift idea to refresh your body or soul, these pocket-size air fresheners easily clip onto your car’s air vents and come in a huge range of scents and designs to suit anyone’s taste. If you’ve got a newbie driver on your hands, toss one of these into her stocking this holiday season, or gift one to her when she finally passes her driver’s test. Also works as an affordable and offbeat hostess gift, or as a fun present for your buddy that’s completely in love with his car but can’t shake the scent of his sweaty hockey gear he totes around in the trunk.

Legnoart Spicy Steak Knives – $109.95
I know what you’re thinking. This is an art sculpture, and I’ve clearly mislabeled it. Not the case my friends, this seeming-sculpture is indeed a set of six steak knives, which easily pull out of the bottom portion of this artful display, which earned it the award for best design innovation. Made of high-grade Japanese 420 stainless steel, any bachelor would be pleased to have these on display on his counter, and ready-to-go for those nights when he’s ready to tear into a t-bone with the guys (or a special lady). Consider it as a high-stylin birthday gift for your brother.

Seymours LED Glasses – $17.95 each
If I had a dollar for every time my parents noted they needed their glasses to see…I’d be wealthy. And could buy buckets of these affordable reading glasses for them, which also feature a nifty twist: LED lights built right into the frames. Now she can stay up late and read that latest page-turner, or he can flip through the daily news when the red eye lights are turned down low – all without flicking on bright, disturbing lights. Heck, they even work wonders as a one-man flashlight when doing fine home reno projects. Winner of best novelty gift, these are an affordable stocking stuffer choice, or even work wonders as presents for your in-laws, or aunts and uncles that are climbing up the age chart.

Corkcicle – $24.99

This one is probably my fave idea on this whole list, in part because I think it’s an ace choice if say, this holiday season you find yourself spending the weekend at a friend’s place, or you’re attending a particularly swanky party and need to bring a stellar hostess gift. The concept is simple. Pop the Corkcicle in the freezer and place it in your favourite bottle of vino and it’ll keep it perfectly chilled without diluting the flavours or watering down the taste. Reusable, eye-catching, and practical? No wonder it took the award for the best gift for the home & kitchen.

Today might be your very lucky day kids. I’m giving away three of the best gift ideas of 2012 to one lucky winner – the Corkcicle, the Millefiori Air Fresheners & the Paris Phone. Here’s how you enter:

1) Leave a comment by November 13th on which top gift idea you’d most like to share with someone!

2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around November 14th to select the winner, who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.

3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible to participate in this promotion.

4) Bonus Entry: You know the drill by now. Leave comments on new, non-contest posts that go up over the contest period and tag ’em with #cgg.
