Flash Post: Calling All Audiophiles

What It Is:From a blogging point of view, Christmas is a fun time of year to write, simply because it means I can talk about some bigger ticket items that might not have a place for other gift-giving occasions. Like say, this receiver and turntable from audio geniuses Marantz, who produce amazingly high-quality audio equipment at relatively reasonable prices, all with the aim of giving you a listening experience as your favourite music act intended you to. Having grown up in a very musical household, here’s a quick rundown of two things you, in the words of Alanis, oughta know. One, MP3s are kind of garbage. The music files are compressed so much you actually lose the top and bottom subtleties of your favourite tunes. Two, music is quite literally good for the soul. It can help you unwind, or conversely, wind you up for a workout or a big day. It can set the mood, help you study, or simply make you smile. With all of that in mind – the best kind of music is the kind you can hear perfectly. Enter Marantz.

Who It’s For: Your music-loving dad that craves a fuller stereo sound but can do without a big hassle of a set-up. Your party-hosting bro, so he can spin his favourite vinyl all night long. Your sister and her new hubby, as a combination housewarming / holiday gift.

What It Costs: The receiver is $469 and the turntable is $359.

Where It’s At: Both items are available at Future Shop, along with a host of other ear candy equipment from Marantz.
