Flash Post: Take A Read On The Wild Side
What It Is: It…looks like a normal book, sort of? But really, it’s not. Get past the pebbled cover and you’ll be astounded as gazelles prance across the page, elephants flap their ears, and gorillas enjoy a mid-day snack. Confused? Welcome to the world of Scanimation® photicular technology, which makes seemingly still images come to life as your turn the page, a la Harry Potter. I strongly recommend a perusal of this video that showcases how the book works, because seriously, once you see the video you’ll be super eager to grab a copy of the book for yourself. And what is the book about, technology aside? It’s a virtual safari, with fun yet fact-filled write-ups on what makes each of these creatures so unique and entrancing to us human-types. The content level is perfect for educating young ‘uns or simply leaving it out on your coffee table for readers of any age to enjoy. Seriously, this one is a really unique treat you guys.
Who It’s For: Your sibling that’s been to Africa and back, and would love a taste of a memorable trip. Your photography-loving mom, as a reinvented way to look at pictures. Your niece or nephew, to read with them before they go to bed and wait for Santa.
What It Costs: A relative bargain considering how cool it is – the list price is $28.95 but you can score it online for less than $20.
Where It’s At: Bookstores nationwide, although the above-quoted price of under $20 was found on Indigo.
Hmmm I must really like you guys this week, because I’ve got ANOTHER contest for you. I’m giving away one copy of Safari to a very lucky reader. Here’s how to enter:
1) Watch the aforementioned video above and leave a comment by December 6th with one of the animals featured in the video + who you’d give the book to if you won it (or if you’d keep it for yourself, greedy greedy!)
2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around December 7th to select the winner, who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.
3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible to participate in this promotion.
4) Bonus Entry: If you’re on GoodReads, you can earn a bonus entry. Track the book down on there, add it to your ‘to-read’ list and post a link to your list (on the page the book has been added to) to earn your bonus!
