What It Is: A series of four glossy books created by the Design Museum, each of these tomes highlights 50 iconic pieces of fashion in their respective categories. Each entry highlights the actual design theory and elements behind the pieces, what marks them as standout pieces of sartorialism, the designers history and legend, and where applicable, the famous folks that brought these couture confections to the mainstream – from Lady Di to Twiggy and every gal (or guy?) in between.
Who It’s For: Your fashion-obsessed sister, to ground her love of clothes in some art appreciation. Your best girlfriends, to swap and share and gush over. Your lifetime Vogue-subscribing mom, as an aux courant coffee table set that’ll make her the envy of her friends.
What It Costs: Online, each book retails for just over $17. The list price is around $27 a pop.
