An Apple A Day
…keeps the doctor away, sure, but what about fruit flies and rot? If you’ve ever gone overboard at the Farmer’s Market (especially now during peak harvest season for summer veggies) only to throw out half of your luscious berries and crisp carrots, or if you’re a gardener with a plentiful bounty this year that you’ll never be able to eat before it goes bad, today’s gift idea may be a complete and total revelation.
By nestling a Bluapple into your refrigerator’s produce drawer or even in your fruit basket, you can extend the life of your fruits and veggies by twice the length you normally do. How you ask? Well the science of it is, fruit is naturally inclined to produce ethylene gas, which stimulates ripening. Mother Nature’s grand plan in doing this is to ensure uniform ripening amongst a crop, making it far easier for hungry humans like us to harvest (and ensures the spreading of seeds, as a bigger, ready-to-eat crop will attract more birds and critters). To think of it another way, once one orange or head of broccoli begins to ripen, the others will follow suit.
The trouble comes from placing all those assorted fruits and veggies together in an enclosed space. Those lemons that came from Mexico may be well on their way to ripening (and rotting) while those freshly picked snap peas from your neighbour’s garden aren’t. When trapped together in your fridge or a fruit bowl, your fresher produce may spoil more quickly because it’s being influenced by the gas coming off of older items. Bluapple essentially works by neutralizing the ethylene in harmless, regulated doses of sodium permanganate. As a note, those produce shipments that arrive at your local grocery store are regulated in a similar way via trains, planes, and trucks, but on a much grander scale.
The pretty genius thing about the Bluapple, aside from its ability to preserve your freshest food, is that it’s actually a pretty eco-friendly solution. The apples are designed to be reusable and are sold in a two-pack (for $10) to maximize effectiveness in your fridge. Each apple comes with a special membrane packet featuring the neutralizing solution you need to keep items crisp and tasty, which lasts for about three months. Once those three months are up, simply replace your reusable Bluapples with new packets – which can be purchased in annual refill sizes (for $10). And if you aren’t completely satisfied they actually offer a full refund, less than 70 of which have been asked for out of hundreds of thousands sold.
It’s also pretty affordable and accessible. You can order Bluapple online, plus they’re available at tons of retailers including Bed, Bath and Beyond, Jean Coutu, IGA, Bioterre, Ares Kitchen Equipment, and Depres Laportes Kitchen Equipment. If you’re unsure of where to find Bluapple near you, I’d recommend paying their Facebook page a visit for some ideas, or to ask directly. At this price point, it makes a fabulous stocking stuffer, hostess gift, Secret Santa option, or even just a thank you or ‘just because’ for a good friend. Affordable, practical, and something you might not think to snap up for yourself? Sounds awesome to me.
Hopefully it sounds awesome to you as well, because I’ve got ten two-pack Bluapples to give away to 10 lucky readers! Here’s how to enter:

Hard to say which produce is my fav I love most of it, but if I have to pick one that I always end up throwing out some of it, would be the more delicate fruits like plums. I always seem to have to throw out produce into the compost heap, like I am a day late in using it up, so this would be tremendously money and guilt saving!

I love all fruit and veggies but one of my favourites is red plums. Liked on facebook (Annie Demill)https://www.facebook.com/TheBluapple/posts/506099219464462
I love all fruits.. its saddening to see my berries get spoiled so soon.
I’m a huge fruit & veggie fan, but my favourite is raspberries. I’d like to win because lately I’ve been noticing that my veggies are not keeping as well. Thanks for the explanation why!
I love apples, and I’d love this product to keep them fresh longer, especially when I buy bigger bags.
I love all of the local fresh fruits available right now: peaches, apricots, blueberries, strawberries…and they always seem to perish the fastest. What a terrific solution.
My favourite is cherries. We buy a lot of fresh produce and often have to throw out so this would be something that we could use.
I am more of a vegetable eater than a fruit eater but my husband loves fruit, so we always have a fridge full of both. I would love to try one of these blue apples to make sure the expensive produce I buy lasts.
If this works as it claims, it would pay for itself many times over. Fruit and vegetables are a large portion of our diet and frequently have to throw some away due to spoilage. If I have to pick just one, I’d say strawberries are my favourite.
it does realy work great , having tested myself
i also use 2 bluapple in my basket on the counter
I am much more of a vegetable eater than fruit eater. I love all kinds of salad and their fixings. Seems like no matter what I do though, something always manages to go bad before I use it in the fridge. These BluApples would help.
buy it in Canada @ solutionethylene.ca
I like apple and oranges
we like peaches and oranges and I would really love to try this out for myself
i love my fruit and vegtables i hate it when they start to go bad especially when winter comes and the prices go up
I would love a Bluapple as produce freshness is key (especially during the late-summer stretch). Fave produce would be oranges (followed by peaches). Thank you.
I love apricots and a Bluapple would be cool to try with raspberries which are really hard to keep .
My fav produce is apples and I’d love to have a blue apple. I hate having to toss out vegies and fruit .
Love to try this product

I am loving local yellow plums and kale right now- but not together!
We love all fruit, veggies and berries as long as they taste fresh! Would be excellent to have something that will keep them that way.

My favourite produce would be apples and tomatoes, amongst many others. A blue apple would definitely help in keeping them as fresh as possible for a longer period of time, not that they last that long but I have in the past thrown out some produce because I didn’t eat it on time. It gets quite costly and it would help in saving a few dollars.
I love fresh fruit so its hard to pick so i would say nectrines or peaches. I would love to win this to try on Tomatoes and Cucumbers which are horrible this time of yr going bad quickly. I am going to buy one if I dont win one as well sounds like a great idea.
I love nectarines and would love to win this to keep them fresh longer
I love me some rhubarb. And I’m an obsessive wild blueberry picker. So I’d go with those as my favourites. I’d love to win a BluApple because my ability to harvest outstrips my ability to consume that harvest in a timely fashion.
I love any berry, grow most of them in my garden!
My favs are blueberry and rasberry, yumm. I would love to win a bluapple because tossing out un eaten fruits and vegs is such a shame 😦
I love celery and this Bluapple would be amazing and would save me so much money!
I am a big fan of strawberries, unfortunately they deteriorate so quickly, this would be ideal for so that I can actually enjoy all of them instead of having to throw a 1/3rd in the compost.
I liked the blue apple FB page and posted my comment: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Bluapple-Canada/579800478747845
I live alone and when I buy berries, I lose half of them…..would love to have this gadget
Our produce is horrible here in Saskatchewan, have to freeze everything. Would love to try the blue apple.
I don’t eat produce very often because it always goes bad on me. This would be great to try!
love any fresh produce, especially in the summer. going to farmers markets is the only way to go for me and having the blueapple would be really helpful in keeping the things I purchase fresh. thanks
i love any kind of berry, all summer long!
My fruits and veggies always go off before I can eat them which is why I need a Bluapple.

I love strawberries and blueberries! I would love to be able to make them last longer
I love all kinds of fresh fruit and vegetables, but the ones that seem to spoil fastest on me are peppers and cucumbers. Would this device work on those?
I love bananas so the apples sit longer than they should and the blue apple would help.
Fresh, crisp apples are my fave. Since fruits and vegetables are in investment in my health, it would be worth protecting my investment with Bluapple. Pure genius!
My favorite is apples and carrots. I want to win a Blueapple because I can never eat my vegies fast enough before they spoil.
I left a comment on Blueapple’s facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=586538828074010&id=579800478747845&comment_id=5269000&offset=0&total_comments=1
my favourite produce is home grown cucumbers – I’d love to win a bluapple to help keep other “forgotten about” produce in my fridge lasting longer.
I love blueberries & raspberries, but they go bad so quickly so I’d love to have a blue apple to extend their life.
My favourite produce is Empire apples ‘cos they are so crunchy, juicy & flavourful. By having a Bluapple, I can prolong it’s freshness, buy in bulk, save a few dollars & hopefully not waste any food by having it go bad sooner than later which is always an issue for a single person.
I guess apples are my favourite fruit, although it seems I’m always throwing out broccoli. (Just have to be in the mood!) The Bluapple is a great idea!
I love strawberries the best but they don’t seem to stay fresh long so I’d like to win one of these cool products.
grapes are my favorite produce. i would love to score this because grapes and fruits are pricey and I would love to extend their life. So sad to toss out unused fruits and veggies
Blueberries are my favorite. I’d love to win this because they often spoil before I get a chance to finish them.
blueberries are our favorite – I’d love to win this so I could keep them fresh longer.

My favourite produce is strawberries.
I have liked and commented on their Facebook page (Julia Grant).
I’ll say fresh pineapples because they’re a rare treat around here, but the perfect one is an event! I’d like to score a Bluapple to help make these perfect fresh fruit moments (for all kinds of fruit) more frequent.
i love bananas and berries – these blue apples are great – my fridge is full of produce – this will be put to good use
i love zucchini, peaches and broccoli. I buy a lot of produce so I’d love the bluapple to keep it fresh longer and avoid throwing it away
i would love to try this with my fruit bowl of apples
I love berries, our fridge is so small that we often have to combine fruit and veggies into the same drawer, this is such a good thing to help keep stuff longer

I love tomatoes – big, fresh, juicy ones – NOT saggy, soggy, bruised ones. That’s why I’d love to try the Bluapple! 🙂
