Trend Watch: Houndstooth
Another new trial feature for you all – when I notice certain motifs, colours, or themes in the gifting world, I may very well cull them into one theme post. If you’re a fan of the particular trend, you’re in luck! Be sure to add a few of these to your wish list.
Houndstooth is a classic, ladies & gentlemen-suited pattern that tends to crop up in the fall – in part because it requires a heavier wool than what’s suitable for summer wear. That being said, if you’re fan of the style in general, many designers are finding fresh ways to incorporate it year-round.
From L to R:
Sequin Houndstooth Pullover – $110 @ Banana Republic: BR actually has quite the houndstooth collection this year (just give ’em a search) but almost nothing SCREAMS houndstooth. Case in point? This tone-on-tone sequined sweater available in navy blue and grey.
Houndstooth Handkerchief – $15.95 @ Avril Loreti: Toronto designer Avril Loreti has racked up plenty of love for her fresh prints and colour combinations; including those applied to this fetching abstract houndstooth hankie. A sweet unisex gift.
SEPHORA COLLECTION Houndstooth Embossed Train Case – $132 @ Sephora: A classic makeup train case is a must-have if your bathroom is short on storage (or you uber mobile) – shared bathrooms and dorm residents will flip for the sleek lines and ample storage of this cool case.
Pumpkin Houndstooth Dog Collar – $22 @ Bigpaw Collars: If you want your pooch to show off his more gentlemanly side, opt for one of Bigpaw Collars’ houndstooth options. I’m a fan of this autumnal take myself; bonus points if you pick up the matching bowtie for your pup.
Paul Smith Ombre Houndstooth Sweater – $665 @ Paul Smith: While houndstooth has a ladylike vibe to it, but one of the first mainstream places it was actually featured was a men’s suit collection in the 1930s. This ombre wool sweater is a splurge to be sure, yet I couldn’t help but feature it to demonstrate how men can don this timeless look.
Point & Click Flat in Houndstooth – $59.99 @ ModCloth: I think printed shoes are so clever. If you’re print-shy in the rest of your wardrobe, a pop of pattern at your feet can really liven up an outfit. The neutral tones of these flats make them work with virtually any ensemble.
Want a bonus entry in yesterday’s Olive Yew giveaway? Tell me in the comments below – do you love houndstooth? What’s your fave find on this list?
I sure do love houndstooth; I have a blazer that is so old, it’s back in style! I really like the houndstooth embossed train case and the shoes.
Not typically a fan of houndstooth however the Sephora traincase I do like.
I’m not the biggest fan of the houndstooth print, but I do like the sweater from BR.
Just doesn’t work for me but I would look at the dog collar.
Not a great lover of houndstooth (find the pattern too busy), but I do like the
Point and Click Flat in Houndstooth.
I can take it or leave it, find I prefer a small scale houndstooth to a large one.
I do like the Sephora Houndstooth Train Case though.
I do love it and my fav item is the dog collar.
not really
i really like the sequin pullover.
i only have houndstooth socks and i love them
I like Houndstooth if it is done in a small scale. The train case is my favourite of today’s featured items.
I am not a fan of Houndstooth, however the Sequin Houndstooth Pullover does look very lovely
I can’t say that Houndstooth is on my mind on a daily basis but I really like the Houndstooth flats.
I love houndstooth particularly when it’s done like the subtle banana republic sweater above. Thanks.
Bonus Olive Yew entry: haven’t really given it much thought about my love/hate relationship to houndstooth but I can say I like it. Maybe this is the season I’ll love it 🙂 As for my fave find on this list, it would have to be the “Point & Click Flat in Houndstooth – $59.99 @ ModCloth”. A pop of pattern is always fun!
