Find of the Month: Latika

I have two rules when it comes to bathtime (or showertime, as it were). One, it should truly be treated as an oasis. Taking an extra minute to really enjoy the hot water or scent of your favourite bath product can give you a serious pick-me-up when heading into another day, or help you unwind before bedtime. It is so totally worth it to invest in some fun soaps, deliciously scented shampoos and conditioners, fluffy bubble baths, and products designed to nourish and exfoliate your skin.

Of course, my second rule is you should really try and incorporate natural products where you can. Your skin absorbs up to 80% of what you put onto it, which means harsh (and scary) petrochemicals can end up in your bloodstream and potentially lead to more serious health complications down the road.

Luckily, December’s fabulous Find of the Month ticks both of those boxes. Latika (meaning ‘little plant’) is a Texan company (that caters to Canadians, no fear) that produces handmade bath treats with natural ingredients. The twist? For one, their soaps in particular come in a crazy range of shapes and scents, to make bathtime about ten times more fun and gifting super crazy easy for loved ones of any age.  I’ve highlighted some of my fave picks from their collection as well as some fun insights on this fantastic brand.

Latika Fancy Mustache Soap
Fancy Mustache Set – $6.79
One of the best parts about shopping at Latika is their suitability for stocking stuffers. Their fun-shaped soaps work equally well for your hipster brother or your favourite niece or nephew. Take for example, this trio of moustachioed soaps, which would make for a cute bubble bath photo op with the kiddies, or a wry commentary on your favourite guy’s commitment to Movember. Slightly more geared towards men, each of these soaps has a unique scent – Smoked Firewood, Vanilla Bean and Agadir Nights.

Latika Lump of Coal Soap
Lump of Coal – $7.49
Another awesome stocking stuffer (or bargain Secret Santa) pick is the classic ‘Lump of Coal’ for all the naughty ones on your gift list. What really rounds this out compared to your typical bath product gift is the cute burlap sack it comes housed in that basically eliminates the need to wrap it. Inside, your lucky friend or family member will find a few hunks of firewood-scented ‘coal’ which actually contains real activated charcoal; an extremely absorbent ingredient that’ll give you a deeper clean.

Latika Ice Pop Soaps
Ice Pop – $5.99 each
I have an odd fixation with things that look like ice lollipops – something about them just instantly taps into my inner psyche to be like “REFRESHING!” Such is the case with these translucent soapy ice pops in three shockingly realistic varieties and scents: from the creamy notes of Neapolitan ice cream to the invigorating (and exfoliating power) of Watermelon to the summery Rocket-pop inspired Red White and Blue offering. A cute choice to stuff in your kid’s stocking, as long as they don’t accidentally bite it!

Latika Macaron Soap
Paris Is Always A Good Idea – $18
In lieu of bringing a sweet treat that’ll hurt the host’s waistline, why not give her something inspired by a decadent dessert? Latika’s French macaron-shaped soaps are so realistic looking, you’ll be hard-pressed not to munch on them. Created in collaboration with an actual macaron pastry chef, this trio of treats comes in a ready-to-gift cellophane package, including a cute bow. Suggest arranging them in a vintage dish in the bathroom for compliments on the fresh clean scent and cute presentation for the entirety of your friend’s special event.

Latika Milk & HoneyOatmeal, Milk & Honey Collection – From $3.99
I’d be remiss not to mention that Latika Soap is more than just fun-shaped soaps. In fact, they have several collections of full bath and body care products in scents like Lavender & Sage and Ocean Breeze. My personal favourite however, is the breakfast-inspired Oatmeal, Milk & Honey line that is somehow both soothing and upbeat at the same time. From fizzy bath bombs to uber gentle soaps to soothing lotions to an exfoliating lip scrub, once you lock into this smell, you can apply it to nearly every inch of your body. Not sure where to start? Check out one of the honey-infused sets for easy gifting options.

Latika Bath SoakHerbal Bath Tea – $15.99
This is definitely one of the neatest tub innovations I’ve seen in some time. The idea is to take that hot water you’re soaking in and literally turn it into a ‘tea’. You can either ‘steep’ this herbal concoction directly in your both or in a bowl of boiling water that you simply add to the bath. Either way, the aromatic results are absolutely heavenly as the sweet smells of Chamomile, Lavender, Spearmint, Rosemary and Juniper intermingle. If you’ve ever felt truly soothed by a cup of tea and wanted to dive right in, this is the way to do it. Makes a splendid stocking stuffer or unexpected hostess pick.

Lip Scrub KitLip Scrub Kit – $15.99
I discovered the joys of lip scrubs last year and I must say – they are a total must-have for our Canadian winters. Made from a natural blend of oils, butters and sugar, all you have to do is gently rub your lips with the scrub and then, if you choose, lick off the remaining sugar. This cute kit includes both a scrub and lip balm so you can keep your pout properly moisturized between exfoliation sessions. Not a fan of touching your mouth directly? It also comes with a wooden spatula for easy application. And with 10 scrumptious flavours to choose from, you can easily buy multiple kits and divide them amongst your daughters or best friends. Having given the delicious Cafe Latte scrub myself, don’t be surprised if you end up hanging onto a set for yourself.

Holiday Soap Gift BoxHoliday Gift Soap Box – $34.99
Let’s end things on a festive note shall we? For the record, Latika does make a pretty extensive line of regular ol’ block soaps as well. Of course, it’s hard to call them ordinary when they feature exfoliating beads, metallic shimmers, and unique scents like Apple Pie and Guava and Goji Berry. This lovely six-pack of Oatmeal & Honey soap comes packaged in a ready-to-gift pistachio green box, and features seasonally appropriate shapes for a perfect hostess or houseguest pick. It’s a little more formal than a standalone bar of soap when gifted as a set, but you can also snag it and split up the soaps amongst guests at a holiday gift exchange or dole them out to your fave coworkers.

Latika Soap
This really was another one of those posts that I struggled with because I wanted to make sure I was representing all of the wonderful products Latika has. While I definitely didn’t cover every last bath goodie they carry, hopefully this ‘wets’ your appetite enough to take a dive into their site and peruse their full line-up. They’re truly a fantastic resource for stocking stuffers, hostess gifts, Secret Santa swaps, gorgeous gift sets and more – with relatively affordable prices and totally reasonable Canadian shipping rates, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be snapping up some goods for your loved ones this holiday season. Especially because, for any of you that have clicked through the links above, you may have noticed some awesome sale prices; prices that’ll be in effect until the end of this month!

Oh yes, and did I mention? Two winners are each going to take home a $150 prize package of goodies from Latika! If you’d like to scrub up and stay clean for the year, here’s how to enter:
