Chess Nuts

What It Is: Pretty much the ultimate chess board of all time. Strato Chess is essentially a 3D chess board, and it’s not just for show; your pieces can move forwards, backwards and sideways as normal, but they can also move up and down, causing this already mind-bending game to take on a whole new ‘dimension’ of play. Before you think this is some sort of newfangled contraption: it’s not. 3D chess has been around since the late 19th century, and Strato Chess itself since the 1970s. But chances are you, like myself, have never heard of it – hence why I featured it today, for all of the would-be chess grandmasters out there to salivate over.
Who It’s For: Budding chess players looking to be extra challenged. Your grandparent that loves to play the game right now but wouldn’t mind a little change decades later. Your super brainy chess-playing friend, because maybe you’ll finally beat them once the rules are swapped up.
What It Costs: $79.99
Where It’s At: Amazon.ca (although you may be able to find it for less online in the U.S. somewhere)
Bonus entry into last week’s ah-mazing Blurb.ca giveaway: tell me in the comments below, are you a chess player? Would you like to try this mind-bending variation?

Not a chess player but my husband is – I think this would be a great gift.
I am not a chess player, however, my son is. He’d love this!
I’m not a chess player. I’m sure those that are really into it would thoroughly enjoy this 3D board.

not a chess player! And maybe because of that, I wouldn’t be into this 3D board…
Haven’t played chess since 1969.
Unfortunately, I’m not a chess player.
