What’s Your Secret?

Summertime is a season to be seen – between the increase of event invitations to the fact you aren’t bundled up under a toque and scarf, most people will take care to put a bit of extra effort into their summertime appearance. With that in mind, today I’ve rounded up a few summer beauty secrets that you can work into your routine (or share with a friend – hello gifts!) that also have a natural twist, to ensure your keeping that glowing, healthy look no matter what. Moody Sisters Dry ShampooDry Shampoo – $14 @ Moody Sisters Skincare
Here’s a fact: washing your hair every day (particularly in the sunny days of summer) is no good for your mane. But of course, I’m sympathetic if you’ve got grease at the roots. The answer? Dry shampoo. Typically speaking, these powders (or sprays) contain ingredients like (gasp) aluminum, to basically plug up your oil-producing pores (and soak up whatever oil there is). But this natural alternative is vegan-friendly and just as effective as providing a boost of lift at the roots while getting red of greasy bedhead. As a bonus, this cute tin also comes equipped with its own powder puff for precise application.

KMF Moisture Shave

Natural Moisture Shaves – From $4.99 @ Kiss My Face
Summer is also about showing off those stems. Some of the foaming agents in regular shave creams can be really harsh and drying to your already parched legs. Kiss My Face’s 4-in-1 Moisture Shave solutions offer plenty of protection from your razor blade while also soaking up your skin in rich, moisturizing oils. With six lovely scents to choose from (including a fragrance free option), you can also lather up knowing that there’s no artificial fragrances in this cruelty-free, vegan, gluten-friendly cream.

The-Body-Shop-All-In-One-BB-CreamAll-In-One BB Cream – $20 @ The Body Shop
I’ve used many CC Creams and BB Creams at this point, but I have to say I’m pretty impressed by The Body Shop’s entry into the category. And apparently I’m not alone – the stuff is so popular, a bottle flies off the shelves every 27 seconds globally. When you squeeze it out of the tube (and a little goes a l-o-n-g way), it actually comes out as a sort of creamy white lotion with little flecks in it. As you rub it into your skin, it blends in flawlessly, to even out your complexion, cover up redness, and moisturize to boot. Best of all, I looked it up on one my favourite resources for testing the quality of ingredients in cosmetics products, and it ranks incredibly low – at a harmless 2 out of 10 – making it great for those of you that don’t want a skin-clogging product.

Tom's of Maine Oral CareSimply White Toothpaste and Cleansing Mouthwash – From $4.99 @ Tom’s of Maine
Planning to pucker up with a summer romance this season? Then make sure your breath is as fresh as can be, whether you’ve spent the day hiking or lounging by the pool. Going natural offers up a few benefits. For one thing, the effect is super long-lasting. I’ve been using Tom’s of Maine Simply White Toothpaste for awhile now, and yes my teeth look more sparkling, but more importantly, I wake up and I don’t have horrible dragon-esque morning breath. It’s magic! For another, both of these products are free from some of the harsh ingredients in regular toothpastes and mouthwashes, such as fluoride, glycerin, triclosan, and SLS. These mouth freshening products will admittedly take a little bit to get used to as they’re not nearly as ‘sweet’ as convetional brand, but once you enjoy the benefits, you’ll be hard-pressed to switch back.

MaskerAideMaskerAide Face Masks – $5.99 each
I. Am. In. Love. These face masks are absolutely incredible! First of all, they’re from a Canadian brand, instantly giving them some extra adoration from myself. Secondly, they work. I put on a face mask of some sort on a weekly basis, and it’s hard for me to really see a noticeable difference after I’ve scrubbed off the clay. But with these paper face masks soaked in rich essential oils (perfect for travel, btw), after a 10-20 minute intense hydration experience, I have the world’s most glowing, refreshed skin – it’s almost as if I’ve just stepped out from the spa and gotten a facial. As an extra benefit, each of the masks offer up something different. Whether you’ve been partying all night or about to head to a notable fete, there’s a mask for you. Particularly useful for summer? The ‘Weather Warrior’, which promises to soothe sun-chapped skin. As a bonus tip, use the extra oils in the package and lavish your neck and decolletage!

I hope you enjoyed my tour of some amazing ways to up your summer beauty game. Now I’ve got an awesome prize package for one lucky winner, valued at over $70. Interested in winning? Here’s how to enter:

The Weekend Warrior Maskeraide Face Mask – I have a 7 year old in Soccer and both of my children (10 & 7) are on our town’s swim team. That means I am either out on a soccer field 3 days/afternoons a week or I am at the pool ( I swear I have my own seat!). Being out in the elements or exposed to the chemicals at the pool – my skin really starts to show it! I love using the essential oils – I use them already and really like the results.
