The Eyes Have It

I love makeup as much as the next person – if you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, you’ll know that. And you’ll also know that I try to mix in or opt for natural beauty solutions when I can find good – nay, great – ones. One of the areas I really try to go au natural is my eyes, in part because the skin is so delicate and fragile there, some of the harsh chemicals found in drugstore brands can seriously irritate your skin (and get into your bloodstream that much easier). Today, I thought it’d be cool to share a few of my favourite eye-friendly faves with you, all in the realm of natural beauty. These are all great gifts for beauty lovers in your life; especially those conscious of the not-so-nice side effects of non-natural brands. But I also expect at least one of these to end up on your wish list!

Faerie Organic Forty Winks Eye PrimerFaerie Organic Forty Winks Eye Primer – $14
Eye primers are totally essentially to keep your makeup in place all day long (good ones can also keep your eyelids moisturized instead of shut off from oxygen via whatever shadow you’re layering on top. I did some research awhile back to find the best natural primers which led me to this one; it’s got sort of a creamy, tacky texture to it, allowing my makeup to literally ‘stick’ but still be ultra-blendable. Not only is it natural, it’s full of organic ingredients, and free from harmful chemicals like the eye-irritating dimethicone, found in many high end and drugstore primers.

Alima By Night Mineral EyeshadowsAlima ‘By Night’ Pure Mineral Pearl Luster Eyeshadows – $12.50 each
Inspired by film noir, these shimmery eyeshadows from natural mineral brand Alima promise to pack a lot of drama – and colour! From shimmery coppers and bronzes to bold teal and gold-flecked black, each little pot demonstrates how far natural beauty products have come, with a consistency and pigmentation that rivals if not bests its conventional counterparts. This line-up is only available for a limited time, so snap up a pot while you can.

Studio 78 ConcealerStudio 78 Off We Go Concealer – $34 @ Clementine Fields
If you have genetic dark circles under your eyes like I do, chances are you’ve spent a fair bit on investigating various high end concealers. The search ends here. Studio 78 is a Parisian brand that’s all natural and totally amazing. I scoured the globe and ended up buying a pot of their concealer from the UK (although it’s now available in Canada via the link above) about six months ago and haven’t looked back. This stuff is ah-mazing – way better than any non-natural brand I’ve ever bought! It has a slightly dry, powdery texture when you first dip into it, but as you press it onto your skin you’ll see it work its magic. Seriously, my #1 most recommended beauty product of all time.

Jane Iredale Jelly Jar EyelinerJane Iredale Jelly Jar Gel Eyeliner – $34 each
When it comes to natural cosmetics, Jane Iredale is kind of leaps and bounds ahead of most brands out there. Sold in salons with raves from beauty editors and makeup artists, this brand puts out a really professional image and top-notch products. I myself love gel eyeliner, but wanted a natural alternative. Not only does Jane Iredale offer long-lasting, highly pigmented pots of liner, they’re also available in four fab colours – black, brown, green and purple. I’ll take one of each please!

Wink
Wink Eyelash and Eyebrow Enhancer – $39
Admittedly, the one area natural cosmetics have failed me so far is in finding a mascara that really does what I need it to. I have very long, but somewhat sparse lashes. There’s hope though, in the form of Wink’s Eyelash and Eyebrow Enhancer, an all-natural formula that has been scientifically proven to grow your lashes by 20% (that’s 60 extra lashes) in just two weeks, as well as strengthen the follicle to allow them to actually get even longer. The brand is one of the very few cosmetics companies to come out of MIT, and their approach isn’t just to beautify – it’s to look at women’s beauty challenges (like my sparse lashes) and figure out natural, scientific solutions that work. Say goodbye to pricy (and eye-irritating in my case) eyelash extensions or creepy eyelash serums that turn your eyes a different colour. Say hello to all-natural growth: for life. Oh, and if your brows are sparse? It can also help fill those in too. It’s literally genius – I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I’ve seen a noticeable difference in both my lash condition and number of lashes. Total convert right here guys.

Wink Eyelash and Eyebrow EnhancerA few other things to know about Wink Natural Cosmetics. The eyelash enhancer above is their first product, but a new anti-aging eye cream is due out shortly. Their product – usually packaged in that purple box above – does indeed ship to Canada, meaning magic beauty solutions are right at your fingertips! And as for the pink box above? Well they’ve got a charitable side too: during the month of October, for every bottle of Wink you purchase, they’ll be donating a bottle to a cancer patient service charity. Wink has therapeutic value you see; women who lose their lashes and brows during chemo or other cancer treatments can use Wink to help speed along the regrowth process once they’re cancer-free. Very cool. And naturally, whatever bottles you buy this month, they’ll come in a pink box instead of the usual purple!

Finally, some super news. Wink is providing two bottles of their Eyelash and Eyebrow Enhancer for giveaway! If you want to be one of the two lucky, soon-to-be longer lashed ladies. Here’s how to enter:
