Seasons Sweetings

Not gonna lie – one of my favourite parts of the holiday season (and I’m so not alone) is the sweet treats that tend to crop up. From boxes of goodies delivered to my office to melt-in-your-mouth candies stuffed into my stocking, I literally drool at the thought of smashing open a chocolate orange or enjoying basically anything candy candy-flavoured (I got a head start this year with candy cane gum). If you’re looking for a sweet treat to share this season, whether for corporate gifting, hostess presents, serving up at whatever fete you’re hosting, or simply for someone with a sweet tooth like mine, you may want to familiarize yourself with Christy’s Gourmet Gifts. Based in Burlington, Ontario, this family-run, artisanal treat company uses fine ingredients like Belgian chocolate and pure butter to create delectable treats – including this round-up of some of my faves from their collection.

Christy's Gourmet Gifts Christy's CrunchChristy’s Crunch – $5 – $25 Each
Let’s get things started by taking a look at Christy’s Gourmet Gifts signature product: the eponymous Christy’s Crunch. Somewhere between a cookie, toffee, and chocolate bar, this lip-smacking treat is what launched the gourmet brand into the stratosphere, with massive orders placed each year for everything from neighbourly well wishes gifts to a perfect way to say thank you to your employees or suppliers. Christy’s Crunch is available in five flavours during the holidays. The brand’s three classic flavours are milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate cranberry, but they also offer white and chocolate peppermint during the holidays (dark peppermint not pictured). It’s available in large chunky bars, but you can also order gift boxes in several different sizes, including the Elite Crunch set, which includes four bags of this lip-smacking treat.

Craft Beer Brittle with AlmondsCraft Beer Brittle – $10 / Box
Made from real craft beer and melt-in-your-mouth delectably sweet, this box o’ brittle is a fantastic gift with a range of applications. First? If you’re doing a Secret Santa with a $10 limit, this is a great gift that everyone will be clamouring for. Second, if you’re hunting down a stocking stuffer he’ll love, you can’t go wrong with anything beer-infused. For a fun twist, Christy’s Gourmet Gifts also offers a Craft Spicy Beer Brittle that’s a mix of brew, nuts, sugar and spice. Finally, it’s also a swell hostess gift that everyone will be eager to try out – stock up on a few boxes and haul one out for all of those last minute cocktail party invites. It’s a fresh new spin on ‘BYOB’ – with the b = beer brittle!

Christy's Crunch ShortbreadShortbread – $12 / Dozen Cookies
For whatever reason, shortbread really seems to shine during the holidays. Maybe there’s some traditional significance I’m not familiar with or maybe it just tastes good dunked in a cup of hot chocolate, whatever the case, few things feel more Christmasy than a buttery, flaky piece of shortbread. Christy’s Gourmet Gifts has two varieties on offer – Milk Chocolate Toffee and White Cranberry Toffee. With a dozen melt-in-your-mouth cookies in every box, it’s a perfect hostess gift that everyone can dip into post-holiday dinner.

Wine Infused Chocolate ToffeeWine Infused Chocolate Toffee Bars – $10 each
I held back on sharing this one through the two wine posts I’ve written over the last couple of months (although it’s another perfect 10 for $10 pick). Find me a woman that doesn’t like wine, chocolate, and toffee, and I’ll make them a believer after biting onto one of Christy’s Gourmet Gifts scrumptious wine-drenched gourmet bars. These tasty treats are available in three varieties – Cinnamon Basil Baco Noir (above), Chardonnay, and Merlot Black Pepper. Not only are the bars made in Canada, so are the ingredients – the wines in each bar come from Southern Ontario’s vineyard region, making this a truly Canadian candy bar.

Sea Foam Sponge ToffeeSea Foam Sponge Toffee – $10
I’ve had good sponge toffee and bad sponge toffee. The good kind fizzes on your tongue and makes you feel like a kid again – and that’s exactly what this retro-inspired treat does. Of course, it’s been given a grown-up makeover, with rich Belgian chocolate dipped corners and a nothing-but-perfect flaky fluffiness. In fact, you’ll notice that toffee is the through-line in all of the amazing treats offered by Christy’s Gourmet Gifts. That’s a good thing. It means these sweet-minded folks know their way around a pot of toffee and how to best deploy it to make your tastebuds sing. And with fabulous prices across the board (seriously, nothing on today’s gift guide is over $15, apart from the bigger gift boxes) they’re great to buy for any age, any relationship that you’ve got.

Christy's Gourmet Gift PackageA bit more about the brand. As I mentioned, they’re based in Burlington, but they do attend major craft shows (like the One of a Kind show in Toronto) and they do ship. And if you’re interested in wrapping up something sweet as your corporate gift this season, they’re a fab source to do so – they even do custom packaging that aligns with your brand. Finally, as my gift to you on behalf of Christy’s Gourmet Gifts, I’ve got a fabulous giveaway kicking off today! You could win 1 of 3 tasty $50 prize packages, filled with Christy’s Crunch and beer brittle, and wrapped in a beautiful gift box – so you can treat yourself or be a sweetheart and gift it to someone you love.
