I Wish I May I Wish I Might
Do you still wish on stars? I do, sometimes, if I spot a particularly sparkly lone one shining down on me. Now WHAT I wish for is typically a secret, but for today only, I’m letting you in on some of the gift ideas that are topping my wish list for 2014.

Get a peek into the kitchens of some of Canada’s top restaurants with these two unique cookbook offerings. Focused in on two of Canada’s culinary hotbeds (and places I’ve lived!) these sensational books are packed to the gills with 100 home chef-friendly, restaurant chef-created recipes to appeal to all manner of tastes. Many of the recipes are actually pulled right off the menus they hail from – such as Ox & Angela’s legendary sugary sweet churros or Anejo’s refreshing guacamole – but still others are hidden gems or twists on restaurant faves. I love these cookbooks because I love to dine out as much as I love to cook at home, so they’re pretty much the best of both worlds. How much do I love sea salted caramels? So much so that I actually used oversized caramels as the placecards at my wedding. So much so that I find it extremely difficult to order anything but sea salted caramel ice cream when it appears on a menu. And so much so, that I simply had to add Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut’s new Sea Salted Caramels Collection to my holiday wish list. This divine package comes with four rows of caramels, which at first glance, appear to be coated in a mix of dark and milk chocolate. But look closer darlings – the box comes with a card that explains yes, there is a row of milk chocolate caramels and a row of dark chocolate caramels, but there’s also some surprising offerings, like Thai Ginger and Hawaiian Sea Salt Raspberry caramels. #Fangirl alert! The cover of this anthology reads like a veritable who’s who of the YA fiction world, with some of today’s hottest writers contributing sweet short stories on a holiday theme. I honestly recognized virtually every author on the cover of this fun collection, including buzzworthy fantasy writer Laini Taylor, literary darling Rainbow Rowell, and pioneering YA writer David Levithan. Given one of my fave YA reads of the last few years was the similarly themed Let It Snow: Three Holiday Stories, I was pretty darn excited to spot this title and add it to the top of my wish list. The stories themselves are wildly inventive too – with fantasy touches that take you to the Great Hall where elves live to more modern, humorous takes on surviving the holidays with your family, there’s really no better book to get you in the holiday spirit than this sweet collection of twelve tales.

The strongest notes are juicy blackberries offset by fragrant wisteria, but I also enjoy the sweet notes of pear, litchi, and coconut that you can pick up with a deep inhale. Boots have been troubling for me, last year I bought my first good quality pair of boots in a decade. I got sick a couple weeks after I got them and my dog promptly trashed them out of frustration for me not walking him. This year as I am on a budget I just bought a used pair on Kijij and I wore them today for the first time walking the dog only to realize they have holes in both heels 😦 I hope that I win as with boots – lately I feel that I just can’t win!
