Totally Brill

Fucking Brilliant JournalWhat It Is: A very cheeky journal featuring foil-stamped calligraphy on the front that kind of speaks for the ideas contained within. While the book certainly stands on its own, it’s worth noting that it comes from a brand called Calligraphuck, which is known for their expletive-laden greeting cards that pair beautiful script fonts with sassy messages. I particularly love highlighting journals around this time of year as gift ideas because they work fabulously as New Year’s gifts – if your goal is to get more introspective or to dream journal or whatever, the first step is to get a beautiful, inspiring book like this one.

Who It’s For: Your writerly best friend, to jot down ideas for her next book. Your hilarious coworker, to make everyone blush at your next team meeting. Your quirky cousin, to break out for notetaking in university.

What It Costs: $12.95 is the list price but it can be found for less online.

Where It’s At: I found it at Amazon.ca

Given this is a gift idea I wanted to feature over the holidays but just never found a space for, it’s only appropriate that I use it as a holiday giveaway bonus entry opportunity for my Tis The She-son mega-giveaway. Tell me in the comments below: What do you think of this saucy notebook? Do you plan to write more in the New Year?

  2. Heather Arnould says:

The calligraphy is lovely, but I find the title a tad tasteless. Having said that, my daughter would love it.

  3. intensev5 says:

Love it. I think we all think we have brilliant moments we should write down!!!

  4. dabrowne says:

I think it is f..cking brilliant! Mr daughter writes music and musings. She would appreciate it.

  5. Shelley N says:

I think the notebook is fun and attention getting. My brother is a poet and this journal would be perfect for him. Unlike my brother I do not tend to write so I do not plan to write more in the New Year. The closest I come to writing is my family Christmas letter and my endless pile of to-do lists.

  6. lorna says:

Brilliant. And would keep my mother-in-law from snooping in it because it would offend her!!!

  7. shirley says:

I think this is wonderfully modern and current. I have 3 young adult daughters and would gift this one to the oldest as she is a journal keeper from very young teen years. This would be a nice start to her 30’s journalling.

  8. I love it!! I want one for myself and I know of a few friends that would love it as well.

  9. CLC says:

I write lots so this would be great.

  10. Katie says:

Hilarious! I’m not much of a writer, but would like to write more

  11. Tracy says:

I think that is great fun ๐Ÿ™‚ I have kept a journal of one form or another since I could scratch words, and now my ten year old does it! I have slacked off a lot since I had kids and wish I had more time for it -it is so good for my being. I would love to do it daily this year, not saying I will though ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. nicolthepickle says:

I would not go for this. I think snarky sayings are funnier than putting crude words into pretty penmanship.

  13. i like being saucy and plan to be more in the new year, will try to write down more of my adventures in the new year

  14. Cheryl A says:

Ha! My hubby would love to have something like this for work—I don’t know that it would go over well with the company though. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Would make a great secret Santa gift.

    • Cheryl A says:

Oh, and I do plan to write more in the New Year. I received a couple of notebooks and coloured pens to use. Mainly, I’m a list writer…chores to check off, kids lunch plans, that sort of thing…

  15. Lindsey says:

I’m not a writer but I might start if I had this notebook…

  16. Annie Demill says:

I know some people who would love this. I plan on continuing my writing this year; I keep a list of every book I read during the year, favourite quotes from the books etc.

  17. Toks W says:

I usually keep one notebook until it runs out–now I’m going to keep one subject to a notebook since I got a flurry of them. I’d love one of these

  18. Grace F says:

I love to keep lists and this notebook would be so fun!

  19. Aimee says:

I think it’s funny. I’d like to write more next year

  20. Kelly says:

I like it. And I always hope to write more, but we will see!

  21. Susan says:

It’s probably not for me as I don’t spend much time journaling.

  22. Dreena says:

Not to my taste. I don’t journal, but I photograph to document moments.
    Cheers.

  23. Julie G. says:

It certainly made me smile, but I don’t really journal, like Dreena mentioned in her comment, I am also an avid photographer, so my memories are stored in that manner instead of written on paper.

  24. mcmc says:

I have a friend who journals all the time and this year I planned on trying to keep up with her so this would be great.

  25. Susan T. says:

I don’t write at all but I love this notebook! I make a lot of lists so maybe I could use it for that. Yes I am really boring! ๐Ÿ™‚ This would be really great for anyone creative though.

  26. aly3360 says:

I have a girlfriend this would be perfect for. I always sya i’m going to write more, but i never do. Plus i’d be far too embarrassed if anyone read any of my writing.

  27. Susan Patterson says:

I don’t write very much, but maybe I will start – thanks!

  28. kelly says:

I would love to have this for my notes

  29. Alison K says:

Tis The She-son bonus entry: I actually though of my Brit friend when I read about it & then when clicking the link for Calligraphuck, sure enough they are Brit! Makes perfect sense & it would totally fit his personality – scatterbrained & inappropriate vocal announcements of shear brilliance. Do emails count as writing & if so I think I should actually cut down on my word usage & be more concise. Maybe starting now ๐Ÿ˜‰

  30. Joan G. says:

I don’t think I’d write more but it is a novelty item.

  31. Julia H says:

I like it. ๐Ÿ™‚ It is very saucy…it wouldn’t be for everyone, but, for the aspiring writer in your life, this would be the perfect gift. Yes, I do plan on writing more, in the next year….it is something I used to do all the time, and have let it slip, and I miss it.

  32. Debra says:

Very saucy – my granddaughter’s new favorite word! Although she would not get this!

  33. Julie Dyer says:

So saucy! I love it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I plan to write more & send more snail mail in the new year.

  34. katydidit21 says:

I love this! I want to get one for my best friend, myself and my son. I am hoping to write more this year. I want to post at least one blog entry a week.

  35. cookie3 says:

This is awesome & so cheeky!

  36. Audrey Skinner says:

I love this notebook. I would totally make good use of this myself as I would love to write more in the new year.

  37. jessica eapen says:

I think its a great idea, and I do hope I can find time to write more!

  38. Loretta Krauter says:

This has got my daughter written all over it!!! Lisa would go ecstatic if I gave her this – she always has a journal with her and likes very unique ones – this fits the bill !!!

  39. janicour says:

I know a few people who would love this. I always intend to keep a journal, but never seem to follow through. Hopefully this year will be different.

  40. Victoria Ess says:

I love it! I would buy it and keep it!
