He Will Be Loved
With Valentine’s Day just 10 days away, I thought it was high time I did a dedicated gift guide (or two…) on some ideas to show your sweetheart you care. In general, I believe love is something worth celebrating every day. However, so long as you two aren’t putting intense pressure on one another to deliver an out-of-this-world gift or experience, I also think there’s nothing wrong with presenting a token of your affection to your paramour this Valentine’s Day. Here’s some awesome ideas for the man in your life.
Kama Sutra Weekender Kit – $25 @ Amazon.ca
One fun way to approach Valentine’s Day is to skip over gifts that are meant to symbolize your ‘love’, and focus in on things meant to enhance your lovemaking. For a cheeky pick, check out this pint-sized Kama Sutra kit, including edible oils and powders to enjoy a tantric massage. With five luxury sample-sized items and a skin-teasing feather tickler, it’s a fun way to spice things up in the bedroom and enjoy a very love-filled Valentine’s Day.
Offal Goods Bow Ties – $60 each
Credit where it’s due – my parents spotted these snappy bow ties at a local retailer and told me I had to feature them. And I’m quite happy to, given Offal Goods is a Canadian brand based out of Edmonton, and the rising popularity of the bow tie in men’s fashion (my husband dons one every day). Handmade with love, these dapper accessories are a great way to add a pop of colour, pattern or general flair to his work or formal wear. And if you really love a particular style, you can also nab a matching pocket square for just $10 more. Offal Goods is producing new designs on the regular, so even if you can’t find one of their existing styles that quite works for your guy, keep your eyes open!
Bed Fan – $99.99 @ Brookstone
So maybe you don’t want to heat things up in the bedroom…maybe you’re looking to cool things down. Every lady I’ve ever talked to has confirmed that their male bedmates are crazy sleepytime furnaces. If he’s tired of tossing and turning from the heat and you’re tired of practically getting a fever from the heat waves on the other side of the bed, check out this ultra ‘cool’ gift idea. It’s controlled by a wireless remote that sits on your bedstand. If things are getting too hot, simply click it on and this adjustable fan will send a nice, chilled ripple over your body, potentially saving you moola in comparison to air conditioning your whole home. It’s a thoughtful twist on telling someone how hot they are, isn’t it?
X’s & O’s Chocolates – $6.95 / box @ MoRoCo Chocolat
Give him a sweet treat this Valentine’s Day with a classic box of chocolate – with a twist. This gourmand box of proxy hugs and kisses comes in milk, dark or white varieties. To make things a little sweeter, offer up a hug or kiss for ever piece he devours. Fair warning – he might end up with a tummy ache and you with sore lips based on how fast he’ll gobble this entire little box up! A sweet and affordable way to say you care.
Pacific Shaving Company Products – ~$7.99 each @ London Drugs
When I learned about Pacific Shaving Company, my first reaction was to go ‘Finally!’ I mean that in the sense that women have had access to affordable, all-natural brands (like Burt’s Bees) for their skin and beauty needs for eons. But the men’s realm of grooming products has been slow to catch up. Pacific Shaving Co. is an all-natural brand based out of the U.S., although their products are trickling up north with a presence in London Drug stores country-wide. While their specialty is shaving products – including oils to help prevent and soothe nicks – they also offer an exfoliating wash and daily moisturize, as well as a ‘buzz’-worthy twist on shaving cream: one with caffeine that’ll give him a java-like jolt when shaving off that facial hair before work. It’s so affordable, you can easily nab a full set of products and a nice new razor. Bonus: it also means less beard burn when you’re getting your smooch on during Valentine’s Day.
Square Metal Custom Printed Wall Art – $34.99 @ BLACKS
If you want to go the sentimental route then you better hop to it! BLACKS has tons of amazing custom photo products available – many of which are also on sale, as you can see in the image above – but they also have a cutoff for February 4, EOD, to guarantee Valentine’s Day delivery. My pick from the bunch are these cool square pieces of wall art. Rendered in modern metal, they’re manly enough to hang just about anywhere. Pick a cute photo of the two of you from this past year, or opt for a favourite photo from a trip you took together. Not wanting to exhibit such a public display of affection? No worries, BLACKS has tons of other more subtle options, including phone cases, cards, pillows and more.
There you have it! Six swell ideas to celebrate your guy this Valentine’s Day. And as an added bonus, I’ve also got a sweet Valentine’s-themed prize package for one lucky lad or lass, valued at over $90. The lucky winner of this prize will nab a 4-piece Pacific Shaving Company collection and a bow tie from Offal Goods (not necessarily the one pictured). Interested in winning? Here’s how to enter:
