What It Is: This clever little book is based on the premise of a weekend getaway. Presumably you have a bit of travel time on either end (Friday night and Sunday night), but perhaps altogether you’ve got a good 36 hours in a foreign city. If you’re freaked out by how much possibility lays before you, then simply flip open this handy guide to learn how to make the most out of your 36 hours – without driving yourself crazy. The second edition of this lovely travel book, curated by the New York Times, covers off 150 North American destinations and includes over 600 restaurant recommendations and 450 hotels. Packed with photographs, city maps and plenty of insider destinations, this is a must-have travel book for anyone that loves to pack up and disappear for a few days. If you want to narrow your focus, the same publisher also has a few more specific books, including some North American editions tailored to specific regions of our continent.
Who It’s For: Your business traveling-buddy, so they can squeeze in some culture on their latest jaunt abroad. Your best friend and her husband that love to sneak off for romantic weekend adventures. Your retired parents, to give them inspiration for their next short trip.
What It Costs: The edition above retails for $42.99, although it can be found for less online.
