Light the Night

Black Candle SocietyWhat It Is: A collection of potent candles from Canadian brand Black Candle Society, all made from 100% natural soy wax. As you likely know, soy wax is awesome when compared to its gasoline-byproduct cousin, paraffin, because it burns cleaner and longer, and you won’t risk getting soot on your walls, ceiling and furniture. Ironically enough, these candles are indeed pure black – but they all smell totally different. From the sweet and sensual Confection (chocolate and fennel) to the tropical Tiki (coconut and lime) to earthy Temperance (patchouli and cedarwood) there’s a candle to suit your desired atmosphere. Plus they come in cute, portable tins, meaning you can bring them along to freshen up a hotel room or campsite. Be sure to check out their ‘Natural Collection’ as well, which includes zippy Siam (Lemongrass and Basil) which doubles as an insect repellant.

Who It’s For: Your candle-loving sister, as an introduction to another candle brand. Your roommate, as a way to make your living quarters smell amazing. The bride-to-be, as a sensual way to light up her honeymoon night.

What It Costs: The candles start at $15-$20 for a 6 oz tin, which burns for about 30 hours. Their bigger 8 oz size burns for about 50 hours and is just $5 more.

Where It’s At: Black Candle Society can be bought online.

Speaking of amazing natural scents, did you see yesterday’s skinnyskinny giveaway? I’m delighted to offer up a bonus entry – all you have to do is visit the Black Candle Society site and tell me what scent you’re most interested in trying from their lineup of candles.
