Comfy Cozy Are We

Yes I’m borrowing a line from the holiday season for the title of this post, but winter’s deep roots still feel firmly planted across most of Canada right now, and I thought it was high time I write a gift guide dedicated to gifts that’ll give you the warm and fuzzies this week. Plus it’s all part of ‘me month’ – where I’m encouraging you to treat yourself, whatever that means to you. So here you go – a few glorious gift ideas with warmth and comfort in mind!

Dr. Roebuck's

Dr. Roebuck’s Cleanse Natural Nourishing Creme Cleanser – $22.95 @ Shoppers Drug Mart, Murale and Dr. Roebuck’s Online
Nothing feels better after a cold day outdoors than a nice toasty bath or shower, followed by lavishing yourself with skin-soothing lotion. But I also think it’s important to detox your typical beauty system by adding in some natural products. Enter Dr. Roebuck’s – this cult Australian fave is making waves in Canada with their skin-saving products that work on even the most sensitive of skin, thanks to their pure formulations and active ingredients. Cleanse is the brand’s two-in-one hydrating and calming cleanser, which contains luscious jojoba and macadamia oil (to name a few of its key ingredients) that work in both an anti-inflammatory and nourishing capacity. Love it? Feel free to follow up with other items from the line, like Polish, a two-in-one facial scrub and mask, and Tone, which brightens and soothes the skin.

Betabrand Red Eye Wrap Sweater

Red Eye Wrap Sweater – $115 @ Betabrand
Call it a wrap for all seasons. This versatile sweater is made from a snuggly brushed jersey fabric and can be worn in a myriad of different ways. It’s lightweight enough to make a great layering piece, but snuggly enough to work in place of robe or blanket when chilling at home. Or more important, when traveling. This cool sweater gets its name for its built-in hood and eye mask that allow you to catch some ZZZ’s while commuting. With thumb holes and multiple pockets, it’s truly a super soft gift with some practical brownie points.

Mitchell's Soup

Mitchell’s Soups – $8.50 each
When I say soul food, your mind probably leaps toward some sort of soup, gumbo or chili. On rainy or wintery days, there’s nothing that warms you up better than a cup of soup. With Mitchell’s Soups, a family-owned business out of the Cowichan Valley, it’s easier than ever to make a scrumptious dish in no time. Just follow some basic instructions for prepping fresh ingredients, pour one of the brand’s soup mixes into your pot, and let it simmer while you do something else relaxing, like take a warm bubble bath. With traditional faves like Chicken & Herb alongside exotic finds like Rockin’ Moroccan, there’s sure to be a soup for everyone on your list (p.s. these little bags make perfect hostess gifts!)

Escents Lockets

Aroma Lockets – $49.95 each @ Escents
Staying at home in bed all day every day isn’t realistic for most of us. Sometimes being comfortable and chilled is more of a state of mind. Want to reach inner peace more easily? Try Escents’ aroma lockets, a new way to keep your favourite aromatherapy fragrances close at hand. The lockets contain a leather disc (in fact each locket comes with three reusable discs). Simply douse it with a few drops of your preferred essential oil – like soothing lavender – and waft in good vibes and great smells all day.

Salted Peanut Butter Chocolates

Salted Peanut Butter Chocolates – $22.50 @ Cococo Chocolatiers, Owners of Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut
There is literally nothing I don’t like about this gift idea. Peanut butter and chocolate are already well-known as a girl’s best friends, but then you add a little bit of savoury salt to the mix? Talk about a yummy combination! This new product from the confectionary experts at Cococo Chocolatiers makes a wonderful pick for any friend that needs a pick-me-up, or alternatively, a night in to catch up and chow down over a comforting treat. Cap it off with a good book or movie for a truly sweet gift idea.

Nicholas Sparks Movie Collection
Nicholas Sparks Romances DVD – $12.40 @ Amazon.ca
When it comes to heart-tugging romances, few do it better than Nicholas Sparks. No wonder then, that the author’s books have been adapted year after year into some beloved romantic films (including the modern classic of them all, The Notebook). For your next cozy night in, consider popping in this collection of romantic films and binge watch them all…if you dare. Just be sure to keep some tissues handy as you get to the tear-jerking ending of each one!

Organic Aromatherapy Candle

Organic Aromatherapy Balancing Candle – $51 @ Neal’s Yard Remedies
No matter what relaxing activity you pick for your next quiet and comforting evening, an aromatic candle is a must-have. I light one every time I practice yoga and it really helps me focus and clear my head – but they’re just as useful to setting the mood whether you’re taking a bath, reading a book, cuddling under some blankets or simply meditating. Neal’s Yard Remedies has some amazing candles to choose from, crafted from 100% organic oils. Lasting 45 hours, this harmonizing blend of bergamot and patchouli also burns clean, so you don’t have to worry about any sooty smoke.
