Find of the Month: Samuel’s Hats

Looking for the perfect way to quite literally top off your look? How about a hat? March is one of the busiest months of year for Samuel’s Hats, one of the web’s biggest online hat retailers. And for good reason – there are a million and one reasons to buy a hat right about now, whether for fashion, sun protection, weddings, special events like a big derby or race, or simply to replace an existing topper. Samuel’s Hats does indeed ship to Canada for a reasonable price of $15-$20.

Their styles range from practical warm caps for fall and winter to stylish chapeaus for lavish galas to retro throwbacks that work great with a favourite jacket. As you’d probably expect then, their prices range too, although the bulk are under $300 USD. Today, I’m picking out a few of my fave styles as I introduce you to this fabulous U.S. retailer!

Eric Javits W5 Cloche Hat

Lately I’ve been fascinated with the idea of owning a cloche hat – blame it on years of watching Mad Men and admiring how glamorous the ladies and gents looked when commuting with a hat on. Samuel’s Hats has an entire collection of classic felt cloche hats, designed to fit close to the head and keep your ears warm. I liked this modern take on that timeless style for its crisp white colour and the fact it’s water resistant!

Giovannio Fascinator

Giovannio Sisal Straw Fascinator – $84.99
When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Kate and William to us) got married, fascinator frenzy took over the world. Derby Day parties blossomed, as did the idea of topping off your wedding look with a formal hat. The cool thing is you can actually get the royal family’s preferred designer’s hats from Samuel’s Hats (Philip Treacy) but if you want a more affordable designer, they’ve got plenty of cool options for a fraction of the price – like this berry-hued headband featuring feathers and felt flowers.

Biltmore Fedora

Biltmore Sleek – $80
Admittedly guys are even less likely to wear formal hats than the ladies, so Samuel’s Hats caters more to women. But they do have a few collections for guys looking for a dapper hat, whether seeking out a classic cut like the fedora like the one you see above, or opting for something more modern like a Kangol cap. Philip Treacy’s hats have been donned by the likes of Madonna, Lady Gaga and Kate Middleton, and fetch a pretty price for their exquisite craftmanship.
