Okay people. Father’s Day 2016 is just a few short days away – but I’m guessing, like a dad would do, you haven’t quite landed on that perfect gift just yet. Well good news…I’ve got a bunch more gift ideas to get you inspired (and out of hot water come Sunday) that are readily available across Canada! Enjoy!
Lipidol Oils – $8.97 each @ Walmart
Something about the clean, crisp packaging these ‘for him’ products are housed in makes me feel like dad will approve. He doesn’t need anything fancy, but he does need to take good care of his skin. These awesomely affordable products are a new line from the makers of Bio-Oil. The idea is to help dad replenish the oils we lose daily and retain moisture. Whether he’s shaving, showering, or just in need of a refreshing feeling in the morning, the entire line is affordable enough to snag this Father’s Day!
DEWALT ToughSystem Music Player – $299 @ Home Depot and Amazon.ca
Nothing helps you get through a gruelling task like some good tunes, am I right? But…you probably don’t want to bring that super fancy oiled wood or light up dock you’ve got kicking around. DEWALT feels you and has created this sturdy music system that delivers incredible sound and serious durability. Control it via Bluetooth, use it to charge up your other DEWALT tools (or your phone / music player), and enjoy some sweet grooves thanks to the powerful, state of the art six-speaker setup. Resistant to dust and water, this awesome heavy duty system is also easy to tote to the job site – whether it’s your backyard or a construction project.
A Perfect Father’s Day by Eve Bunting – $12.99 @ Indigo
Don’t forget, Father’s Day is about, uh, being a dad. This adorable picture book is a great gift for the little ones to surprise dad with – and spend some quality time together. With over the top adventures between a daughter and dad, parents will appreciate the subtle humour tucked into the crazy energy of these pages. A great, affordable gift for that extra special father of your children.
Men’s Jersey Polo – $19 @ Joe Fresh
Father’s Day is adjacent to the summer season – so I always think it’s a nice idea to update dad’s wardrobe with some fresh summer threads. I love the look and feel of this crisp, sporty polo tee. Jersey is always super lightweight and comfortable, and this stylish top can be worn anywhere from a Canada Day BBQ to the golf course to casual Friday. It’s soon to become a fast favourite – so why not snap it up in both colours?
Tile Bluetooth Item Tracker – $29.99 @ Best Buy
If your dad is like mine, he’s got a lot on his mind – he doesn’t have time to always keep tabs on his keys or wallet or what have you. Enter Tile, a handy piece of plastic you can attach or tuck just about anywhere. If something goes MIA, simply use the Tile app on your phone to track it down. The app can ‘ring’ your items and will play a tune to help you find that essential set of keys or bag you’re hunting for. It’s a must-have for the forgetful dad – even if he doesn’t want to admit it!
Breville Boss To Go Plus – $299
Looking for a perfect gift to please that sporty, healthy dad? This amazing personal blender is an ideal pick for the dad that starts his day or ends his workout with a healthy green smoothie. Packing up to 1000w of power, it easily pulverizes fruits, veggies, nuts (it also doubles as a spice / nut grinder) and ice for a totally smooth drinking experience. The serrated blades also help keep food flowing so you don’t have to keep a close eye on it, while the smooth-edged cups make it extra comfortable to sip away. It’s a splurge – but if dad uses it everyday this awesome gift will pay for itself well before next Father’s Day!
STANLEY Inspection Camera – $149 @ RONA + Home Improvement Stores
An extra set of hands is always useful to get the job done – but how about an extra set of eyes? If dad’s a DIYer, he’ll love having this handy gadget in his arsenal. Boasting just an 8mm head, this compact camera is ideal for seeing tight spaces – whether behind walls, in plumbing, or with your vehicle. It’s also super flexible for any job you need it to do. The head rotates 90 degrees and it comes with 8 brightness settings so you can see in even the darkest, most cramped corners. Plus it’s water and dust resistant, and uses AAA batteries, making it a snap to use with no recharge time required. This is a must-have for anyone that likes to know the full picture when they’re getting their hands dirty!
Vans x Nintendo – Line (beyond shoes) Starts at $25
Everyone’s favourite video game characters have teamed up with Vans – just in time for those boys at heart that also happen to be dads. Featuring classic Nintendo characters in quirky prints across shoes, bags, tops and more, the entire line is also festooned with a retro ‘game over’ message like with the cushy flip flops you see above. While pricing details are a touch sketchy (the line literally launches on June 17), rest assured – this is one gamer gift idea dad will love!
Breakaway Experiences Gift Cards – From $25
The ultimate last-minute gift? A gift card, naturally. But instead of picking up a typical retailer or restaurant card, check out Breakaway Experiences for some one-of-a-kind experiences he’ll treasure way longer (note: you can also pick up actual experiences too, if you know what he’d love to try). Bonus points if you join him, by the way! They’ve recently expanded their reach to add more adventures in Halifax, Victoria, Montreal and Calgary, with tons of dad-friendly activities. Some of my faves? For adrenaline junkies, there’s a Zipline and Offroad RZR Package in Whistler. For foodie dads, check out the Halifax-based Good Cheer Trail Tour, which takes you to two breweries, two wineries, a distillery, and includes lunch. High flying dads will get a thrill out of flying their own helicopter in Mont-Tremblant, while sporty dads will love to get their hands on the wheel of a stock car across Canada.
