The YOLO Generation

You Only Live Once Lonely Planet

What It Is: We’re in the final halcyon days of school for lots of folks right now, with college and high school graduations aplenty. If you’re on the hunt for a great grad gift – let me recommend this one to you. It’s a cool coffee table / inspiration book crafted by Lonely Planet; one of the world’s foremost tourism guides with a bit of an indie, underground, ‘go where the locals go’ spin. The focus here is less on a guide to a specific city, and more on inspiring you to live every day to the fullest, with 1,000 ideas for ways to spend your precious time on this planet. The cool part is the way they’ve divided the book up into chapters based on how long an activity will take you. A tattoo, for example, may take just an hour or two. Got a week to spare? Try a hike through the Appalachians. No matter what, this awesome book will inspire the next generation to get out, experience life, and see the world.

Who It’s For: Your graduating niece / nephew / son / daughter. Your wanderlust-fueled sibling. Your parents, as an introduction to their ‘third act’ in life.

What It Costs: The list price is $41.99

Where It’s At: Buy it online at Amazon.ca or try your local bookseller.

BONUS ENTRY into this week’s new beachy keen giveaway – tell me in the comments below, what do you think of this groovy grad-inspired gift?

Really cool idea, nice to browse through at home, but looks huge for actually taking with you on vacation. Maybe an e-book version would be better.

Love this book – and my daughter is moving to New Zealand after finishing her course & I am going to buy her a copy of this. When we graduated (long time ago!) a cool gift received was a suitcase – for promises & dreams of far flung places.
