Trend Watch: Shirting the Issue
Just as it’s been awhile since I did a Current Covets post, it’s also been a short while since I did my last Trend Watch. This week, I’m honing in on a trend that’s become pretty inescapable this season – but also to the delight of my personal style! I’m talking about the shirtdress – part blousey button-down, part femme dress, this flattering style is workplace-polished, although with shorter, tunic-length dresses you may want to opt for leggings underneath. Here are seven stylish shirtdresses to add to your wish lists – or to gift to a lucky lady!
Button Down Shirtdress With Pockets – $49.95 @ Dynamite: This dress is basically the solid colour doppelganger to the one in my Current Covets post last week. But one colour doesn’t need to equal boring – I adore the rich, fall-perfect plum hue.
Shirt Dress – $39 @ Joe Fresh: A khaki green shirtdress is practically a wardrobe staple at this point (otherwise why is Michael Kors releasing a variation every season?) If that’s not your hue, this crisply tailored shirtdress also comes in denim.
Button Down Midi Shirt Dress – $39 @ Old Navy: A button-down dress often has slightly boho leanings, as demonstrated with this exotic-patterned bordeaux dress. But you can still dress it up by adding on a blazer and some pumps for work.
Charles Henry Crepe Shirtdress – $78 @ Nordstrom: Rendered in a bubblegum pink hue, this breezy shirtdress is ideal with leggings, but can also be spiced up with a pair of gladiator sandals and gold jewelry for a fun weekend look. For the record, there are variations if this one sells out.
Long Printed Tunic – $49.90 @ Zara: I totally own this dress, and I totally love it. It’s got a strange length but the knee-to-thigh high slits make it totally moveable, while the silky fabric is reminiscent of a kimono. Plus it’ll still look cool in the winter paired with some faux leather leggings.
Job Fair is Fair Dress – $69.99 USD @ ModCloth: Lightweight and lovely, the pinstripes on this navy blue shirtdress give it a tailored, businesswear feeling. Love the fact the sleeves can be worn up or down!
Plaid Cinch Waist Shirtdress – $69.95 @ Gap: One of the most popular iterations of the shirtdress is this sort of ‘oversized’, or at least drapey, plaid shirt style. Love the casual drawstring that helps you cinch things in and get some shape.
