Man for All Seasons: Gift Ideas for Him 2016
When I work on my gift guides, I recognize that the bulk of you readers are indeed women – but that doesn’t mean you aren’t buying gifts for the men in your life! In fact, women are amongst the most thoughtful gift-givers I know, looking beyond a wish list or the easy picks and offering up some really special and thoughtful gift ideas he’ll actually love and use. Today’s gift guide was crafted with that feeling – gifts you’ll love gifting as much as he’ll love opening them up!
Truefitt & Hill Edwardian Collection Shaving Sets – $345
Give dad a decadent gift for the ages – an heirloom-quality shaving set from fine purveyors of all things shaving and grooming, Truefitt & Hill. This regal collection consists of a high quality precision razor in your choice of Mach III or Fusion blades, along with a handmade Badger hair brush to lather on the lotion. This top performing shaving set also comes in four gorgeous (faux) finishes – Ivory, Blue Opal, Horn, and Ebony. While a shaving set is a stunning gift he’ll treasure forever, it’s made that much better by adding in some of the brand’s signature shaving creams and lotions. Try out their Sample Pack (now with a handy pre-shave oil) so he can find his signature scent for future gifting!
Black & Decker SMARTECH Drill and Battery – $129 @ Canadian Tire
If he’s a fixer-upper, then he’ll get a thrill from wielding some new power tools this holiday season – especially when they’re designed to make his life easier than ever. This versatile drill’s secret powers come from the battery, which is equipped with Black & Decker’s SMARTECH capabilities to help you keep tabs on whether your batteries are running low – and where to find them if you misplace one! You can even charge up your mobile devices on the go with it. The drill itself offers cordless freedom, a built-in LED light, and a lightweight design for easy handling in even the tightest corners.
HeadsUp Headphone Stand – $64.99 @ Best Buy and ElectronicsForLess.ca
Never lose sight of your headphones again – or accidentally crush them! This glossy little headphone stand is great to keep your headphones within reach and your cords nicely organized. Available in black, white, or red, it even includes a phone or MP3 player holder to keep your gear in one neat little stack. Audiophiles will truly appreciate this slick gift – it works with virtually all of the top brands out there today, including AKG, Beats, Monster, Sennheiser and more.
Bleeding Blue by Wendel Clark – $32.99
Yeah you’ve heard of hockey hero first round picks like Connor McDavid or Sidney Crosby – but how about 1985’s first overall pick, drafted to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Wendel Clark? This legendary hockey player is baring it all – even more than he did on the ice after a grueling career – by sharing stories from his childhood, life on the ice, and the eventual physical torment he went through. Whether you’re a Leafs fan or not, Clark’s grit, leadership, and tenacity have been well-documented and respected over the years. Now it’s a chance for your guy to get the inside story from the man himself, in this riveting, insider peek at the game we all love and cheer for.
Cahoots Simple Syrups – $16 each or $39.95 for a Set
Once again I am thrilled to have some Canadian star power in my posts this holiday season. Cahoots is a Vancouver-based brand with a pretty simple mission: To create good-tasting food. Their product of choice? Cold-pressed simple syrups, made from whole, natural ingredients. The brand has quickly gained a loyal following, with an expanded lineup of five delicious flavours, including unexpected choices like Chai or Hibiscus. For those of you not familiar with this old timey cocktail staple, yes it’s a great addition to any alcoholic drink, but you can also use simple syrups in a surprising number of other ways – drizzle them over ice cream, mix them into a punch, heck, blend them into salad dressings or marinades if it suits. Bottom’s up!
McGregor Socks – From $8 @ Hudson’s Bay, Sears, Simons, Mark’s Work Wearhouse etc.
Another super Canadian idea – with an incredible history. McGregor socks are marketed and designed in Toronto, and have been since 1928. This third-generation family-owned company specializes in all things socks – and given our frigid winters kudos to them for mastering a warmer, toastier sock! The brand actually makes socks for women, children, and men – but I swooned for their cozy knits, festive Fair Isle prints, and posh dress socks for all those holiday parties. Speaking as the wife of a guy who literally put socks on the top of his Xmas list this year, I have to vouch for this as an awesome gift idea – whether a stocking stuffer or just a pile of socks, he’ll have happy feet in a flash!
DEWALT Structural Foam Rolling Toolbox – $59.99 @ Amazon.ca and Home Depot
For the man on the move, I bring you the ultimate toolbox solution. Whether he’s off to tune up a friend’s car, working on a construction site, or wants to have his tools handy for those fix-it jobs at your family cottage, this wheeled toolbox will be the gift he absolutely needs but hasn’t thought to ask for (yet). Offering roomy 28″ of space, he can stash everything in the box’s portable tray and large open area. After a long day’s work, the toolbox is super easy to carry around, with an ergonomically designed adjustable handle. From a security standpoint, he can breathe easy: the box can be lock and is designed to be weatherproof, to ensure his valuable tools are safe and sound.
The Promise of Canada by Charlotte Gray – $39.99
To be super clear: This isn’t a gift idea exclusively for guys. In fact, this bestselling nonfiction book is a pretty perfect slice of Canadiana for anyone on your list in advance of our nation’s 150th birthday next year (Learning: Apparently it’s called our ‘sesquicentennial’). Author Charlotte Gray attempts to parse the previously undefinable: ‘What does it mean to be Canadian?’ Instead of delving into history in a linear fashion, instead, Gray explores her central question by focusing in on nine significant Canadians that have both shaped who we are – and speak to it in their own unique ways. From Emily Carr to Elijah Harper, this riveting collection of profiles and stunning photographs is a must-read for anyone that’s proud to be Canadian!
Parrot Swing Minidrone – $179.99 @ Best Buy, Amazon and Parrot
I do a lot of research when writing my gift guides and I have to say, drones are still top of the heap when it comes to what guys at any age are coveting this holiday season. Parrot has heard their call and answered with some new minidrone models – perfectly priced as entries into the market but offering great functions and control. One of their latest iterations is the Swing, a supersonic plane drone that’s surprisingly easy to control, even for drone newbies. With vertical take-off and landings, you can take this high-flying drone to speeds of up to 18.64 mph. There’s even the option to do crazy aerial tricks, like half-rolls and barrel rolls to delight your audience. Bonus points for including the new Parrot Flypad, which allows for precision controls and more fun than ever before.
Leafwood Watches – $124.97 USD each
The latest wooden watch brand to hit the scene? That’d be Leafwood, which just launched their first two designs made from real wood over the last few months! The cool part is these sleek timepieces are actually made from recycled wood, so you can rest easy knowing an innocent tree wasn’t chopped down to make your watch. Opt for a mid-century modern-inspired square watch with a leather band, or a more traditional round face that’s made current with bright blue details and a rich walnut wood finish. The brand has already attracted thousands of loyal followers online (and tons of positive reviews for both styles!) – he’ll be itching to find out what’s next once he slips one of these stunning watches onto his wrist this Christmas.
So I definitely did not want to leave the guys high and dry when it came to prizing this year. That’s why I’m pleased to announce everything you saw in this post is up for grabs in one big epic giveaway valued at over $1,200. If you win, you’ll nab:
