Grammy Gift Guide

The Grammys are coming this weekend – AKA the biggest music awards of the year (sorry Brits and Junos). Come for James Corden hosting, stay for the cheesy-if-awesome ‘Grammy Moments’ as dynamic musical duos pair up for one-of-a-kind performances. As a special incentive, I’ve thrown together a few great gift ideas for any music lover in your household!

grammy-gift-guide

Songwriter’s Journal – $12.99 @ Amazon.caArguably any ol’ journal works as a place for the next Taylor Swift to jot down some snippets of pretty prose, but this clever book truly is for singer-songwriter types. It’s got adjacent written pages for lyrics and staffed pages for melodies, as well as fret diagrams for guitar chords. There’s even some ideas and inspiration from modern day songwriting superstars!

Anatomy of a Song by Marc Myers – $32.16 @ Amazon.caSome people were born to play music, others were born to listen to it. This audiophile-worthy nonfiction book looks at 45 iconic songs created between the 50s and early 90s, and the thought process of the likes of Stevie Wonder or Rod Stewart in creating them.

Sing Street DVD – $10 @ Amazon.caYes, La La Land is sweeping the world off its feet with its whimsical melodies and styling, but 2016 was home to another great musical in the Irish indie Sing Street. An awkward outsider forms a band with some classmates with the hopes of impressing a girl – the result is totally charming (and some surprisingly catchy tunes).

Roli Lightpad Block – $239.95 @ AppleIf you’ve always harboured DJ dreams, the ROLI might be your first step to greatness. Each digital square syncs up with an iPhone app and allows you to create dubstep-inspired tunes on the go, with no musical background. Their demo video has to be seen to be believed!

Vibes High Fidelity Earplugs – $23.99 USDMost music lovers will tell you seeing their fave acts live is the biggest high you can imagine. These earplugs are specifically designed to optimize your listening experience while minimizing damage to your eardrums. Shipping is only $4 USD!
