What It Is: As you know, I’m really jazzed about featuring Canadian brands more than ever. It’s definitely not a new thing, but it feels extra special with this year being our 150th anniversary. Now how about an introduction to a new player in the Canadian beauty game? Meet STELLAR*. Founded by Indian-born, Canadian-raised television personality Monika Deol (Citytv and MuchMusic), the line’s primary focus is inclusivity. After years of having makeup professionally applied, Monika identified some glaring gaps in the makeup biz when it comes to suitable products for women of all skin tones.
The resulting line is STELLAR*, which just launched on Sephora.ca plus select Sephora stores across Canada. Debuting with an impressively large range of 22 foundations, plus complementary concealers (pictured above) and loose powders, the collection also includes 3 blushes, 19 lipsticks, and 1 mascara. I got to take one of the brand’s slightly shimmery Cosmic Blushes for a spin, and was super impressed at the instant pigmentation that ultimately could be buffed out to a lightweight shimmer – it was so pretty. Ditto to the brand’s vegan-friendly Infinite Lipsticks, which live up their name without drying out your lips. While the supplementary products are awesome and worth a try, the foundations are really the star of the show, with plenty of options for women with mid-range skintones in particular!
Who It’s For: Your beauty-loving bestie. Your mother or sister-in-law, to introduce them to a cool Canadian brand they’ll love. Yourself, because you deserve to find that perfect colour match.
What It Costs: Prices are about what you’d expect for a Sephora-quality brand. Prices start at $26 for lipstick or mascara and go up to $45 for foundation.
