Get Wired: Why Google’s Wifi System is a Game Changer

google-wifi

What It Is: Oh yeah, I know this isn’t THAT new (it was revealed back in October) and I know that a router as a gift isn’t THAT sexy. But it’s practical, and it’s smart – and those are two qualities of great gifts. Designed to be insanely user friendly and to help your home from dreaded dead spots, the system can be multiplied with additional Wifi points that easily tuck onto a shelf.

In fact, the whole thing is set up via an app that helps you see what devices are connected – and gives you the power to shut wifi power OFF (handy if the kids are meant to be doing their homework or going to bed and are busy playing video games or surfing online). And if you run into issues you can use the app to help troubleshoot what’s going on. Also cool? You can prioritize a single device to get a little burst of extra power as required – perfect if you’re streaming a movie or playing a video game marathon.

Who It’s For: Your family. Your parents. Your kids.

What It Costs: $180 for a single unit or $440 for three units.

Where It’s At: Walmart, The source, Best Buy, Staples, and the Google Store.

Nab an extra entry into my Joe Fresh giveaway! Tell me in the comments below – what do you think of this wifi solution as a gift idea? Want it? Want to gift it?

BONUS Joe Fresh ENTRY : I think this wifi solution as a gift idea would only work if you knew your recipient would be thrilled with such a gift, like how many women really go gaga over a new iron? I’d want it to increase my wifi signal. I’ll gift it to say a cousin or tech friend as long as I know they would appreciate it.

  31. Shelley N's avatar Shelley N says:

I love this as we used to have a house that was just terrible for dead spots and we had to set up all kinds of things to overcome it (correction my husband the tech guy did and he would love this gift). My kids are young adults so they do not need the turn off function but that would have been great when they were younger. I would love to gift this to my husband as he would really like it.
