Top Of The Pops
Post inspiration goes to my sister (again)! We were talking a few weeks ago about various Christmas gift ideas, and it clicked with both of us that today’s pop stars are so much more than vibrating vocal cords behind a microphone – they’re brands. I mean, I knew this before, but with some of the holiday season’s coolest gifts being touted by some of today’s top pop divas, I thought it was time to dive in with some gift ideas. What’s particularly cool about these products is that if you’re a fan of the artist, there’s an extra special connection to the item. And if you’re not – indulge anyway. I won’t tell.
Heartbeats by Lady Gaga – $149
By now you’ve probably heard of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones – known as much for their amazing, crystal clear sound as their sleek style. Well Lady Gaga has joined this team of in-ear entertainment experts with her Heartbeats collection. Inspired by Gaga’s love of leather and studs, the headphones are incredibly stylish – but also have some pretty practical features as well. Different-sized ear tips make it easy to find the perfect fit, and a built-in microphone means you can use ’em for phone chats.
Britney Spears Femme Fatale Tour DVD – $16.99 / $23.99 (Blu-Ray)
To quote Ms. Spears – “There’s only two type of people in this world…”, only in this case, I’ll flip it to say it’s people that get Britney, or they don’t. If you’re in the latter camp, you’ll flip for this concert DVD – her first in nearly a decade – that was filmed right here in Canada, at her performance in Toronto. Mixing classic tracks with new favourites – like recent singles ‘Till The World Ends’ and ‘Criminal’ – it’s great to see Britney back in such fine form, and with an amazing spectacle of a show that rivals even the glitziest outings in Las Vegas.
Reb’l Fleur Fragrance Gift Set by Rihanna – $69
Ri-ri is among several celebs who are launching their first fragrance this holiday season, and what would you expect from the Barbadian beauty but something tropical-influenced? Get drenched in the rich coconut and berry-laden scent, which also features some soft floral notes to represent Rihanna’s signature mix of party girl and pretty lady. This gift set rings in at an amazing price, and features a perfume for the vanity, rollerball for the road, plus a body lotion and shower gel so you can bask in this sweet scent all day long.
Madonna Material Girl Collection – $9.59+
The Bay is home to Madonna’s ‘Material Girl’ line in Canada – a fun and flirty collection of cute tanks and rompers, sequin-embellished dresses, and cozy lounge wear. It’s definitely geared to the younger set, but the prices make it worth it for everyone to indulge their inner wild child and take a peek – with most tops under $20 and the priciest pieces barely clearing $50. Awesome choice if you’re shopping for your friend / daughter / sister and want to give them something new to wear for New Year’s Eve.
The Black Eyed Peas Experience – $49.99 (Xbox 360 Kinect + Nintendo Wii only)
Sure she’s got will.i.m, apl.de.ap, and Taboo by her side, but it’s worth singling out Fergie and this awesome new dance video game featuring the Black Eyed Peas, if only because their meteoric star power seemed to launch with her joining the group. Grab your favourite motion sensor video game and prepare to take on some of the Peas signature moves as you shimmy and shake your way through their seemingly endless catalogue of hits. Pick an avatar that best represents your personal style, select a song, and be transported to one of many sets inspired by the group’s videos and tours, in a world where you really won’t want the party to ever stop.
Ke$ha for Baby-G Limited Edition Watches – $120-$150
If anyone knows a thing or two about the importance of time, it’s TiK ToK singer and pop’s resident party girl, Ke$ha. She recently teamed up with Baby-G to launch two limited edition watches that can go with anyone’s style – whether All-American Sporty or Leopards & Glitter (on the floor?) Girly. Each features Ke$ha’s signature on the band and under the face of the watch, and Baby-G’s trademark chunky plastic style.
Lady Gaga x Terry Richardson – $55
Yup, she’s that dominant of a force that Lady Gaga has earned herself two spots on this list – in part because she’s teamed up with another pop culture powerhouse, world-renowned photographer Terry Richardson, for this highly stylized yet oddly intimate photojournal of one year in Gaga’s life. You can’t say they weren’t seriously committed to the concept: Richardson tailed Gaga to over 30 concert dates around the world, and took over 100,000 images. The result? This gloriously glossy coffee table book that’ll easily incite a few ‘Ga-ga-ooh-la-la’s’ out of any fan.
