The Sweetest of Dreams
The baby boom continues…it seems like every other week I discover someone in my expanded sphere is prego, or I’m packaging up a baby gift, or I’m playing guessing games as to who will announce they’ve got a baby on board next. With that said, I’ve been on the hunt for creative yet practical baby gifts that will truly win over the mom-to-be’s heart and mind. The good news is, I think I’ve landed on the perfect gift – particularly if you’re shopping for someone extra close to you, like your own child, sibling or best friend.
Atelier ëdele is the brainchild of Hélène and Joëlle, two lovely ladies who – and they will tell you this – quite honestly have no background in textiles. However, they had a simple dream: to create beautiful and functional bedding for children that reflected their creative minds but would also have an extended place in their lives.
The ladies have instead relied on the expertise of local artisans – who design the whimsical prints on their children’s bedding – and manufacturers in Ontario and Quebec to produce eco-friendly organic cotton sheets, right here in Canada. Not only can you feel good about supporting local artists and this locally based-brand, you’ll also be giving mom a helping hand; the baby comforters are both reversible and larger than standard-sized baby sheets, so they can transition alongside your friend’s toddler as he or she grows up. Each Baby Sheet Set ($200) comes with a comforter that is paired with a complementary flat sheet, fitted sheet, and petite pillow, making it the easiest way possible to outfit your loved one’s little one’s crib.
If you’re looking for a pretty yet cost-effective gift from Atelier ëdele, I recommend their sleep sacks ($70). Made from the same plush cotton, these cozy sleep sacks are reversible; with an illustration matching their baby sleep sets on one side, and a simple pattern (stripes or dots) on the other.
The newest offering from Atelier ëdele is a brand new (as in, you can only pre-order them as of the date of this post) line of duvet covers for children. Compared to the baby line, the children’s collections have a range of other, slightly more ‘grown-up’ prints with cute themes like outer space, nautical or flowers. With the kid sets, you can buy them piecemeal, allowing you to mix-and-match with pieces your friend or family member might already have for their children. Prices start at $20 for a pillow and go up to $90 for a single bed duvet cover and $110 for a double bed duvet cover.

Again, I think this makes a wonderful baby shower present for a close friend or family member (or go in with a couple of gal pals to make it more affordable). I really like the Compass set with the anchor, post card and compass but I think that is only for kids. Our nursery will be nautical themed and it would go perfectly. If I had to pick a baby kit I would have to go with Emilie’s tree set.
