Chic Chefs

There are some people out there who have a true passion for multiple things – I mean, they don’t just like wine, they’re a wine expert that is obsessed with DIY home-decorating shows. Or they know everything in the world about vintage cars, but they also love firing up the grill and hosting lavish BBQs. Fashion and food may not seem like an obvious pairing, but consider that many fashionistas (Carrie Bradshaw excluded) tend to take an interest in many forms of high culture – art, music, theatre, travel, and fine dining.

Thus, this next gift is the perfect gift for the guy or gal in your life that truly appreciates the finer things in life. The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) put out this fun cookbook in the last year, appropriately titled the American Fashion Cookbook, with a forward by Martha Stewart. 100 recipes fill the pages of this hybrid coffee table cookbook from dozens of designers you know and love.

Imagine hosting a soiree and serving up Carolina Herrera’s Pommes Toupinel or Isaac Mizrahi’s Mushroom Truffle Spaghetti? Call up some girlfriends for a sitdown session of going over the September issues of all the major fashion mags out there and dish over a plate of Marc Ecko’s ‘Adults Only’ chocolate chip cookies.

Ultimately, it’s pretty nifty to have a collector’s item like this that features recipes and words from the designers own hands – plus stylish sketches to accompany each recipe. Who says the fashion industry is afraid of food?

The book is a notch or two pricier than your typical cookbook, partially because it’s ‘fashion’, but also because the funds serve to benefit the CFDA in their continued support and development of American fashion designers. It would make a sensational Christmas or Birthday gift for a sister or best friend, or even a sweet wedding gift if you’re close with a particularly fash-happy bride.
