Generation Next

I’ve featured Generate Design‘s products in a few posts before (right here and here), but I figured it was time to put them in the spotlight. Why? Because they really are one of the coolest Canadian online boutiques I’ve ever come across. And for the author of a gift-giving blog, that’s saying something. They’ve always got some of the most unique items I’ve ever seen from a host of independent designers – which means they’ve often only got limited quantities of items, making your gift purchase that much more special. And hassle-free to boot. All online orders including free shipping in Canada.

I promise that visiting their site will be one of the greatest time sucks of your life. To help the narrow the field a little, I’ve picked out five of my fave gender-neutral items that you should seriously consider putting under your tree.

Note Me Pillow – $49.95
Watching TV and come up with a brilliant idea? Napping and want to remember your dreams? Or do you simply want to scrawl a note to leave on the front bench of your house? Either way, the Note Me Pillow is your new best friend. It’s so simple, it’s hard to believe it’s real: simply write a message on the pillow with the included pen, and when you’re done, wash it off with cold water. No soap. No laundry machines. Just complete and total coolness. In five vibrant shades!

Samurai Umbrella – $39
If you come up firmly on the side of ‘ninja’ in the eternal Pirates vs. Ninjas debate, I have the gift for you. This lightweight, top quality umbrella evokes the Far East with its replica samurai sword handle and crossbody sling. A little whimsical and ultra sleek, this is a perfect gift for coastal Canadians that’ll be battling sleet and rain alongside snow this winter. Oh, and if you ARE on Team Pirate, it also comes in a high seas-inspired sabre design as well.

Fruit Memo Pad – $25
Shopping for a co-worker’s Secret Santa gift? Look no further than these cheerful, tactile notepads that mimic fresh pieces of fruit. Extra cute idea? Purchase one for your favourite University prof, or give one to your kid’s teacher as a fun play on the classic ‘apple for teacher’ schtick.

11 Shot Glasses – $129
I think one of the things I love the most about this site is the fact they feature items that are high, low, and custom-priced. So whether you’re looking for a slightly-out-of-the-box gift for your best friend, or a luxurious you-won’t-find-this-just-anywhere pick for your parents, you’ll be sure to find something that hits any price point. This stunning set of elven pastel-hued shot glasses theoretically could be broken up amongst your nearest and dearest – but when something looks this pretty together, would you really want to?

My Eco Can – $19
The environmentalist in me just gets all kinds of giddy when I see something like this. The Eco Can may look like a pop can, but it’s actually a reusable water bottle with a screw-off lid, flip-cap sip hole, and extra protection to prevent against leaks and insulate your drink of choice – in fact, it can accommodate both your morning cup of Joe and your workout bottle of aqua. Aside from being reusable and BPA free, it ALSO happens to decompose when you finally need to throw it away. Although really, with something this cute and convenient (it fits in your cupholders!), the product’s end life cycle will be the farthest thing from your mind when you gift it.

Oh, and did I mention? One lucky reader is going to walk away with their choice of a Fruit Notepad OR a My Eco Can. The rules, my friends, are simple:

1. Leave a comment below on which of these five Generate Design products most tickles your fancy before November 16th. Be sure to include your name and email address (the latter of which only I can see) so I can get in touch with you!
2. Entries are limited to one per person per email address (or 2 if you get the bonus entry below). A random draw will be conducted on or around the 16th to select the winner, who will have 48 hours to respond with their choice of prize before another winner is chosen in their place.
3. Entries are limited to Canadian residents that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible to participate in this promotion.
4. Want a bonus entry? Subscribe to my blog – not just the comments on this post – before the 16th and you’ll automatically get an additional entry in the draw. If you’re already a subscriber, you too can rock two entries: just leave a comment below, and if I see you’re in my subscriber database, I’ll put you down for two entries overall.

For full rules & regs, feel free to contact me at canadiangiftguide -at- gmail -dot- com. Best of luck!

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED! THANKS FOR YOUR ENTRIES & GOOD LUCK IN FUTURE CONTESTS.
