A Picture’s Worth…

They say a picture is worth a thousand words – hence the title of this post – and in this case, that may very well be true. Sarah Jones’ shop, My Place In The World, sells customized prints that succinctly and beautifully tell the story of a special time in your life. Whether you’re looking to celebrate an anniversary, commemorate a birth, or simply show the place your heart belongs to, there’s a print in her collection for you – including all of Canada!

You can actually work with Sarah on customizing your prints beyond what she has in her shop. If your brother and his wife recently adopted a baby from another nation, consider this two-print arrangement with a symbolic red thread linking the child’s birthplace with the new place they’ll now get to call home. And if your province, state, or country of choice isn’t on the site just yet either, simply ask and ye shall receive.

The customization goes beyond the map – this is, after all, your story, and belongs in your (or your giftee’s) home. Choose your names, locations, dates, and details to better express that memorable moment. Plus select from 98 colours to match your decor for both the background and the hand-painted hearts. The brilliant thing about these prints is the simple, minimalistic design goes with pretty much anyone’s home style, and it doesn’t feel obtrusive – just elegant and graphic.

And if maps aren’t your thing, you can also get some pretty silhouettes to hang in your hallway or bedroom to remember the day you met, proposed, or got married, including a favourite quote or lyric that represents your relationship. Seriously, I could be here all day with the occasions on which these prints are appropriate gift ideas. The price point – $22 CDN for most pieces – is in that sweet spot where it works well for everything from your friend’s baby shower to your wedding anniversary, either on its on or topped up with another gift. Or buy the print and the frame – since they’re almost all 8 x 10, it’s easy to find some really beautiful stock frames at your favourite local gift shop.

If you’re in love with these prints, you’re also in luck: Sarah’s offered to give one up to one lucky reader. To enter:

1) Visit My Place In The World and pick a print, then come back here and leave a comment about what story your print would tell (whether for you, or for someone else in your life). You’ve got until April 17th!

2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around April 18th to select the winner, who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.

3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible to participate in this promotion.

4) Bonus Entry: Subscribe to the Canadian Gift Guide, and let me know you’ve done so in the comments below. If you’re already a subscriber, simply shoot me a reminder so I can cross-check my subscriber list.
