Hi, My Name Is…

Not much of an unveil, but a friend of mine pointed out in the last couple of weeks that I really ought to tell you all a little more about myself, especially since I’m coming up on my two-year anniversary this June. You can read a bit about my blogging philosophy for the Canadian Gift Guide over on the Questions & Answers page, but I don’t really talk much about myself on there. If you don’t care to know who’s dishing out your gifty advice, feel free to skip this post, cause there’s no ideas, just info this time around.

So hello! I am CGG, aka Brittany. I write 100% of the content on this blog, although I’m occasionally pointed in certain directions by my friends and family as to what I write about. I adopted the CGG moniker upon starting the blog for a number of reasons, and I’ll probably keep on using it until I decide (if ever) to expand my writing staff here. It initially started off as a privacy thing, but I also liked that it wasn’t about me, but the blog giving you advice. You could also interpret it as ‘Canadian Gift Girl’ if you are indeed a fan of something like Gossip Girl.

Some of you may have deduced I’m in my twenties by now, given the way I address who gifts are meant for. When I say a gift is appropriate for your mom, I’m probably thinking of a woman in her 40s to her 60s, but I recognize that for many of my readers, those gifts might actually be awesome for your besties, while your mom is in a (much older) league of her own. My world is filled with plenty of people buying houses, getting married, and having babies, so a lot of the gifts I pick out are selected with the idea of people in their 20s and 30s doing similar activities – but that’s not to say a friend getting married in her 50s won’t dig a gift idea as much as a cousin getting married in her 20s. Because I’m always consulting with others, and actually sharing gifts with you I’ve bought for people at a variety of ages, I’d like to believe that the gifts I pick out have a pretty wide demographic appeal.

I’ve been pretty vague about where I live, simply because I’ve been bouncing around the country a bit (since starting this blog I’ve lived in two different provinces), and I love to travel. Many of the ideas I get for this blog are based on my travels, but some of them are also influenced by visits to local gift shops. Anyway for the time being I’m happy to share with you that I’m living on the beautiful East Coast in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Finally to tell you a little bit about what I do…as you all (hopefully) know, I don’t get paid a cent to write this blog, and I like it that way. It’s definitely a side project for what is otherwise a very busy career where I’ve gotten to do a ton of interesting things in the worlds of advertising and marketing for big, national brands and small, regional companies alike – but always with a focus on writing and strategy. In fact if you ever wanted help writing, you’re welcome to send me an email to learn more about my mad skills / rates, etc.

Sometimes I get the opportunity to do some pretty neat writing projects based on my trendspotting abilities – a key skill for writing the Canadian Gift Guide – and I’d love to share ’em with you guys. With that in mind, I recently just published an article for Halifax Magazine, which you can view online here (although really my fellow Haligonians, seek out a print copy for yourself, it’s much more visually dynamic) on spring fashion trends.

Well, that’s it, that’s all – that’s me in a very concise nutshell. I promise not to be such a hermit going forward…and stay tuned for some sensational birthday celebrations! As always, you are more than welcome to ask me any questions or throw suggestions my way. I’m all ears (and eyes).
