Glamping Gear

Guys, let me be honest with you. I’m not much of a happy camper. And I mean that literally – I don’t really ‘do’ camping, or at least, I haven’t since I was a pre-tween and my parents took my sister & I on many a cross-country holiday where our overnight accommodations were tents and sleeping bags instead of hotel beds. Anyway. Over the last couple of years, a new, me-friendly movement has emerged: Glamping. It’s pretty much what (I think) it sounds like – glam camping. You can take two tacks with this activity: stay at a pricy, outdoorsy resort. Or buy seriously pretty, seriously girly camping gear. Today’s gift ideas are the latter – eight glittering, girl-friendly gifts to make any outdoor excursion a joy.

Petal Dome Tent – $136 @ Cath Kidston
While any Glamper worth her salt will undoubtedly be looking for an Airstream trailer to outfit her campsite, at least you can rest easy knowing you’ll look ten times cuter than any other tent on the lot with this frilly find. Queen of girly prints, Cath Kidston, is also home to some very cute camping gear, including this cozy tent that comfortably sleeps two – especially if you’re snuggled up in the matching sleeping bags (or using one of a dozen other picnic / camping essentials in the same collection).

Cast Iron Twig Skewers – $8.99 for four @ Bed, Bath & Beyond
Just because you’re in the woods doesn’t mean you need to be all woodsy right? These cast-iron twig-inspired skewers are ideal for creating gourmand dinner concoctions – from fresh veggie kebabs to gourmet sausages to luxe s’mores, you can’t go wrong with a little bit of iron-clad kitchenwares around the campfire. Somehow eating off a stick has magically gotten classy with these beauties…

The Camping With Soul Naturalmat – $158 @ Bell Tent
Handmade, eco-friendly, and ridiculously comfortable? That sounds like a glamping gift to me! These luxury mattresses are made from upcycled blue jeans and organic lambswool, and covered in a preppy chic cotton covering. Plus they’re fashioned to work like real mattresses – you’ll absorb heat from the ground (but no bumps or lumps) for a truly comfortable night’s sleep. For the record, Bell Tent, the store I sussed these out at, has a ton of cool glamping ideas, including tea light chandeliers (shown inside the tent in the above picture).

Grill Guru Master Kit – $32 @ Purpose Design
One of the most oft-repeated themes of Glamping is to plan ahead and make ye some delicious meals – more than your standard hot dog on a stick if you will. These handy mini-spices (which come packed in a compact tube) are just the ticket for making any meal sparkle. With exotic blends like Cocoa & Spice or Tropical Citrus, this is pretty much a cheat-sheet to a delicious semi-gourmand meal. Bonus? They’re made by a Canadian outfit, which means you’ll save a bundle on shipping.

The Gas Can – $279.99 @ Campfire in a Can
Of course, a camping experience – glam or not – isn’t a camping experience without a toasty fire to stay warm by (although gals in the know will already be donning their coziest cashmere wraps come dusk). But forget foraging for firewood or getting your hands grimy in trying to build the perfect ‘log cabin’ firestarter – just bring a Campfire in a Can. Not only is this propane-fueled contraption super lightweight and portable, it also happens to be one of the hottest on the market. You can even use it to cook, so throw on a skillet and whip up some fresh eggs for breakfast now, y’hear?

Tea Towels – $10 each @ Oh, Little Rabbit
Before anyone accuses me of completely eschewing the camping motif in today’s post, let me assure you – there is plenty of cute camping gear to be had out there. Or gear you may want to apply to your real life that happens to be camping themed, in an odd twist. See: the above organic cotton flour sack tea towels, emblazoned with lanterns, sleeping bags, and Swiss army knives to name but a few outdoorsy essentials. Pack a set to clean your brightly-coloured melamine dishes with!

Soap On A Rope – $20.66 @ PB Teen
Any self-respecting Glamper will not be caught dead without some sort of adequate shower facilities – and I’m not talking about a dip in the lake. These soap on a rope shapes from PB Teen offer up sweet vanilla and floral aromas to wash away the ominpresent scent of citronella or sunscreen. Plus I mean…they’re pretty right? And if you are rocking some sort of outdoor shower contraption, well at least you can simply hang your precious soap buddy on a nearby twig until you’re ready to scrub-a-dub.

Marshmallow Madness by Shauna Sever – $18.95 @ Indigo
You guys. The book is puffy. PUFFY I say. And filled with dozens of ‘puffalicious’ recipes for how you can make all kinds of marshmallow treats right in your own kitchen. From melt-in-your-mouth offerings like Buttered Rum, Salted Peanut, or Key Lime Pie mallows to gift ideas for S’mores kits and Hot Cocoa Jars, the book makes the art of crafting gourmet and everyday marshmallows alike completely obtainable. With tons of insider know-how, handy tips, and even sources to buy key ingredients, you’ll never dare bring a bag of store-bought puffs to your glamping excursion. Bonus – the book also features some crazy cool desserts that’ll make the you the talk of the party, like Minty Mallow Cookie Sandwiches and Ambrosia Cake.

I could go on. I really could – this post was a blast to put together. Even moreso because you are officially being rewarded for salivating over all these pretty picks. I’m giving away one copy of Marshmallow Madness to one lucky reader. All you gotta do is:

As I am not an outdoor camper (unless in an Airstream as you suggested), I would probably choose the tea towels! #CGG

Grill Guru Master Kit for the man in my life 🙂
    Great stuff!!!

  22. The Camping With Soul Naturalmat seems to be the most interesting. It would be great to bring outside for camping, or even just laying outside in the sun. It seems like it could be used for so much more than the picture. It could be a picnic blanket or a nice mattress in which to sun tan or even to watch the stars – or a sunset/sunrise. I think I would buy it for myself before gifting it to anyone :$
