Between The Lines

I write a fair bit about books on here, but sometimes I think it’s cool just to pick out gift ideas for readers. This isn’t the first nor will it be the last time I highlight literary-inspired ideas, so enjoy this latest crop of bookish finds.

Kobo Glow Covers

Kobo Glow Readers – $48 each @ Indigo
If whoever you’re buying for simply misses the actual feel of a book in their hand, look no further. These gorgeous eReader covers are made with traditional bookbinding techniques and not only look, but feel like those dusty old tomes. Available in a half-dozen varieties of original cover art, these are a spectacular accoutrement to the purchase of a fancy eReader (particularly because they also protect from dust, scratches, and everyday exposure to the elements. Swap them out by the season, or simply pick your giftee’s all-time favourite and watch ’em light up brighter than their Kobo Glow.

Reading Notes

Reading Notes – $16 for 3 @ Small Victories Shop
Whether for a serious student or an avid reader that loves to deconstruct their favourite tomes, this reading note system is pretty ingenious. If you want to take notes while reading a book, but don’t want to mark up the margins, simply attach this old-school library-style envelope to the inside of your book cover, and slip in one of the matching little notebooks to go with it. Whip out the book whenever a quote or turn of phrase strikes you, and always keep it tied to the book when you need to go back. Pretty, functional, and a great accompaniment for an early edition copy of a loved one’s most beloved title.

F1 2B or Not 2B Tote – $18 @ Flight 001
When I travel, I like to burrow into my reading pile, particularly when hitting a tropical location where there’s little to do but relax & unwind. This tarpaulin tote combines two great loves then – with a cheeky airline travel-inspired message from The Bard himself. Stash your eReader or your travel essentials and stay in touch with your literary side during whatever holiday you’ve got planned.

Paddywax

Paddywax Library Collection – $8 – $28
I’ve seen these famous author candles & diffusers pop up at a bunch of different gift stores and its taken an awful lot of willpower not to bring one home. Each product is wrapped in a book fabric casing and includes a quote from the scent’s source of inspiration – from channeling the holidays through a slightly festive Tangerine, Juniper & Clove scent for Charles Dickens to a classic English garden blend of Gardenia, Tuberose, and Jasmine for Jane Austen, there’s an apothecary-style gift just waiting for your best book buddy.

Litographs

Litographs Tees – $34 each
There really is more than meets the eye with these literary tees. Avid readers will have already picked out that the above samples represent legendary works like The Great Gatsby, Moby Dick, and Peter Pan…but look closer, and I mean way closer, and you’ll realize that subtle texture you see from afar is in fact words. What words you ask? Well the text of the represented book of course. And I mean nearly every last word is on there. You are essentially wearing a book. It may take a microscope to read it, but these tees (and the much more expansive collection of posters – with new releases every week and typically close to the entire printed book) give very new meaning to the idea of a picture being worth a thousand words. Actually, make that 100,000.

I’m really excited to let you all know that Litographs is actually giving away one of their literary tees to one of you folks. If you’re interested in winning, here’s how to do so:

1) Visit litographs.com by April 20th and leave a comment below with the literary tee AND literary poster you’d most love to own (they can be the same one – but be forewarned, not all posters are available in tee format just yet).

2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around April 21st to select the winners, who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.

3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible to participate in this promotion.

4) Bonus Entry: Litographs is on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Earn 3 bonus entries by 1) Liking them on Facebook & leaving a comment with your favourite print from their collection, 2) Following them on Twitter and sending them a friendly hello Tweet, and 3) Following them on Pinterest and repinning at least one of their pins. Whichever bonus entries you choose to shoot for, be sure to leave a comment below that includes your FB username / Tweet / Repin etc.
