Flash Post: Word Art

custom bookshelf painting

What It Is: Custom painted prints of your 10 favourite tomes. That’s it, that’s all – pick ten of your top titles, take a photo of them lined up, and submit it to have your dream library immortalized. Even if you don’t have some of the titles, the artist can often track down the spines of more popular fare. This is just a glorious idea for that crazy avid reader that you’re a little tired of buying books for. Select her favourite books of all time, or theme the collection to a particular period of their life – like the 10 books that got them through college, or the 10 books the two of you have shared and loved. Incidentally if the style of the print above looks at all familiar, it’s probably because I featured artist Jane Mount’s ‘Ideal Bookshelf’ coffee table book around the holidays, featuring the favourite reads of celebs and notable figures alike.

Who It’s For: Your favourite retiring teacher or college professor, as a group gift from your classmates. Your bookish parent, that taught you the joys of reading from an early age. Your writerly wife or husband, to document the works that put them where they are today.

What It Costs: Custom, original artwork isn’t cheap – but man is it worth it. An 8 x 10″ print of ten books will set you back a cool $310. There are variations (less books, more books, hunting down certain versions) that will increase or decrease the price, or you can even pick out a single book print for $80.

Where It’s At: The Ideal Bookshelf website (yes, they ship internationally).

Yay for a year’s supply of Sanuk shoes! Want to earn a bonus entry to better your odds? Tell me a few of the titles that would make your ‘Ideal Bookshelf’ print.
