Fit For A King (Or Queen)
Today is the Royal Baby’s Christening! That is, Prince George of Cambridge – the hotly anticipated heir to the throne, son of William and Kate. As a result, I thought today might be a fun today to highlight five lavish (or at least, royalty-inspired) baby gift ideas for any little ones that happen to share a birth year with our new little highness.
Rabbit Lamp – $115 @ White Rabbit England
We as a society tend to associate with rabbits with the innocence of childhood – this charming white rabbit lamp calls to mind everything from Beatrix Potter to Lewis Carroll. Handmade from real bone china, this British-made piece is best kept on a high shelf away from toddling, tantruming little ones – but it’s no less charming an addition to any sweet babe’s bedroom.
Elsa Peretti Open Heart Fork and Spoon Baby Set – $275 @ Tiffany & Co.
If you’ve ever heard the expression ‘born with a silver spoon in his mouth’, chances are said baby was bequeathed a luxe gift in a signature blue box from Tiffany’s. This petite posh set of cutlery includes a tiny fork and spoon in genuine sterling silver with unique, heart-shaped handles by designer Elsa Peretti. Bonus? You can also pick up a piece of matching jewelry for mom.
Gold Angel Wing Footie Set – $85 @ Marie-Chantal
Most parents will refer to their new arrivals as their little angel – even when they’re behaving rather demonically. Live up to the hype but stuffing your tot into one of these ultra-plush velour onesies bedecked with a pair of glittering gold wings. If neutral champagne gold ain’t your shade, the brand also makes them in delicate white, pink and blue shades. Trust me – this is one luxe gift your gal pal will end up keeping well after their baby has grown out of it.
Flendsted Mobiles – $31.50+ @ All Modern
These whimsical, Dutch-made mobiles are both visually stimulating for blossoming minds and beautifully designed for adult eyes. They are actually hand cut pieces of (sturdy) paper, which gives them an ultra-fluttery, airborne feel compared to bulkier stuffed or electric styles. Truth be told there are quite a few styles that also might make a cute design accent for other non-baby parts of your home. An innovative, minimalist take on a classic piece of baby room decor.
The Royal Infant $5 Fine Silver Coin – $74.95 @ The Royal Canadian Mint
Pretty right? This limited edition silver coin from the Royal Canadian Mint is already 78% sold, no doubt snapped up by Royal fans and proud parents of their own little princes and princesses that were born this year. This sweet coin actually features real gold plating, surrounded by a cavalcade of essential tokens of babyhood – from adorable plush bunnies and unicorns through to classic rattles, bibs and bottles. The coin comes packaged in a plush clamshell case and includes its own coin to avoid any grubby paws on your collector’s item. This is one of those gifts that’s not meant for children as children, but will be a lifetime memento they’ll likely pass onto their own little ones.
Fun news fans! I’ve got a Royal Infant $5 Fine Silver Coin to give away to one lucky reader. Here’s how to enter:
1) First, tell me in the comments below which of these baby gifts you most adore. Second, visit the Mint’s website and tell me one thing you learn about this awesome collector’s coin once you read more about it. Do both of these things by November 15th and you’ll be entered to win!
2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around November 16th to select the winners, who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.
3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible for this promotion.
4) Bonus Entry: Send your salutations to the Royal Baby during the time of his Christening. Send out a Tweet that tags @CanadianMint and uses the hashtag #royalbaby, leave a link back to it here, and you’ll earn yourself a bonus entry into the draw.
