Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Santa Claus CoinWhat It Is: The 10th coin in a unique (and wildly popular) series from the Royal Canadian Mint, featuring Old St. Nick himself. What makes this collection so special you ask? Well, for one thing, these fine silver coins are offered at face value – meaning if you spend $20, you’re getting a $20 coin (which also makes one of the most affordable coins the RCM offers). For another, the accessibility of the coin makes it a hot ticket item. Despite the fact 225,000 of these coins have been produced, they are always quick to sell out – if you want to snap one up, I suggest doing so sooner rather than later; as of writing this post are already over 80% sold).

Who It’s For: Your relative that’s been collecting the $20 for $20 collection for years. Your niece or nephew that wants to get into collecting coins. Your granddaughter or grandson, to commemorate their birth year (and first Christmas).

What It Costs: As mentioned above, $20.

Where It’s At:  The Royal Canadian Mint site and resellers.

Want to win a silver Santa coin of your own? The Royal Canadian Mint and I are giving away. Here’s what you have to do enter:

1) Visit the Royal Canadian Mint site and leave a link back in the comments below to the holiday coin (OTHER than St. Nick here) you’d most like to snag for yourself (hint: check the ‘You  May Also Like’ section). You’ve got until November 25th – one month before Santa’s big arrival – to enter.

2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around November 26th to select the winners, who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.

3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible for this promotion.

4) Bonus Entry: Visit the Royal Canadian Mint on Facebook. Like their Page. Leave a comment about your favourite holiday coin. Leave a link back to said comment over here. Earn a bonus entry. Simple!

I would love to hang the snowflake coin in my tree. http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/1-oz.-fine-silver-coin-winter-snowflake-mintage-10000-2013-prod1720009#.UpJyusu9KSM I have an obsession with snowflakes and my Christmas tree is snowflake themed. It would match the Parliament rooftop snowflake ornament my husband got me a few years ago! But this Saint Nick one would be great to give to my newborn daughter. She was due three days ago and she’ll be here by December 1st!
